Custom Built Bikes Guru or Predator Cycles

Hey All:

I have decided that I will probably need to replaced my Soloist Team Roadie with a custom built since I cannot get it to fit right for high performance riding. I bought it for riding base miles in the preseason and to have something to go up into the local mtns with.

Recently I have started riding it harder ( I hate being the slow guy), and made a few adjustments to get me in better position so I can get to the drops and climb with more power. The only way to do that was to add 28degree stem that was shorter, keep the full stack of spacers, and short reach bars.

Why is this bad by the way. Seriously.

I am 6’4" w/ long legs short torso. So I want to get some info from people who have bought custom and would like to know what the experience was from the initial meeting and first measurements to arrival of the bike and riding it.

Thanks,

Pete

Do a search on the forum and you’ll know why you should consider them when going custom.

I recently purchased a guru crono thru Fitwerx in VT. I had Ian fit me and he did a fabulous job. He did a thorough interview assessing my body morphology, injuries and racing goals. Then he did a meticulous job with measurements and fitting. Having long legs and a short torso, back issues, and leg length discrepancy i am not an easy fit. He was head and shoulders above folks who have previous fit me.

He used frontal and side cameras and did dynamic motion analysis then made his recs and gave it all to me on a computer file.
I ended up getting new shoes, semi-custom inserts and ordered a new guru crono. Bike was shipped to me and fit spot on like a glove. Seat height was marked as well as degree of rotation for the basebar. Riding same set up for 2 months and havent changed a thing.

It was overall a pricey endeavor but in the long run it was well worth it. There is something to be said about having a sound fit and a perfect ride.

hope it helps.

cheers

I’ll second the recommendation for a custom Elite. Give David a call and he’ll take good care of you and you will end up with a fantastic bicycle.

I won’t repeat my Guru experience again, but suffice it to say that I am still unhappy about how they handled the frame replacement warranty.

A buddy of mine has had good experience with Calfee if you’re looking for carbon fiber.

I’d second the advice of looking at Elite. I got a custom Elite Razor two years ago from Ian b at Fitwerk and it fits like a dream. Had a couple customer service follow up needs and Elite’s support fors its products and customers is absolutely top shelf. Could not be happier with my choice.

Elite. Best bike I have ever owned. Best value for a custom on the market IMO.

x3 on elite. Easy for me since I’m close to philly. I had to go custom due to leg length issues. I’ve heard fitwerx is outstanding also.

Definitely don’t go to Predator Cycles. Unprofessional service and it takes FOREVER to get the bike after you’ve been fitted. Go with the Guru
