Well after the tour is all done, once again CSC proves to be the most overrated team in the tour. What do all you Cervelo lovers have to say about this? Hopefully next year Zabriskie will leave and we won’t have to endure the non-stop CSC lovefest this forum is subjected to at tour time.
That’s a bit harsh. They won two stages, held the yellow jersey for several days, got fourth on GC, and Voigt was a (non-winning) force on some breakaways. For its huge budget, T-Mobile was a bigger bust (so to speak). Individually, Valverde and Moreau were much bigger disappointments than Sastre.
Yeah, how could I forget that. I guess I meant during the actual race, not Team Telekom 10 years ago. Oh well, Erik Clark’s right. CSC really sucked. 8 yellow jersey’s, 2 stage wins, 4th in the GC. They’ve got a long way to go if they want to be as good as Bouygues Telecom.
I just got home from a hot long ride and can’t read
I need a nap so maybe my brain will work right
this tour defarce is getting to me
I need a web reader to help me after a long ride or run
Your definition and most people’s definition of accomplishment are quite varied. If i recall, they won the yellow on stage 1, again a few stages later. they worked like DOGS to have the yllow for 8 stages…they took home 8 nice yellow jerseys. for 8 days, they were all the limelight, cancellara, Jens Voigt.
Then they lose the jersey, and yes, Sastre was average…Frank Schlek was non-involved. they might have been hammered and fried from defending the jersey for well, 8 days of insane racing. and never recovered. they decided having the jresey for 8 days was a better investment of their energies than letting it go right away since they really didnt have a tour contender.
but more over, while i hate Riis and his drug-taking, overall, i LOVE the personality and work ethic on CSC.
as TT, TRI guys, we gotta LOVE Cancellara. animal of speed. work horse. down to earth guy who just slaves.
Jen’s Voigt? you kidding me? that guy is what all pro riders should be. he gets in a break, there AINT NO SITTING ON for him. he slaves and races his race. tried , and failed twice, but gave full gas.
zabriski was a joke, but he was never that caliber anyway. awsome TT’er. great guy. american. love him, but he just isnt at that level just yet.
the schlek brothers are young.
i think they are one of the best teams in the world, but they need a tour contender.
I just wonder how long cadel evans stay on lotto? no room for him, and mcewen. dude got dropped in the mountains, missed cutoff since his team was protecting cadel.
Well said! They are a very good team, only missing a real GC contender now that Basso is gone.
Most over rated team in the tour Erik? Hardly - funny that statement coming from you anyway 'Kinda like MarkinCin commenting about a lousy swimming performance in the Olympics …
overrated? No1 team for the past 2 years and leading tht competion this year 2 stage wins, 8 days in yellow 4th in gc figured in severil breaks and there budget is about 7-8th amongst the pro tour teams. Sure many other teams would be glad to be that over rated. No I dont own a Cervelo.

I guess they need Basso back.
right on the money. the paint falls off their bikes when you look at them sideways and the wheels obviously fall of their TdF teams.
They didn’t exactly have the best luck after PROTECTING THE YELLOW JERSEY FOR A WEEK.
They lost O’grady due to a bad crash. They lost Zabriske to a knee injury. Cancellara went down super hard twice. Jens Voigt got in quite a number of breaks, but just couldn’t get a stage win. Schleck is young, and you can look for good results from that family down the road a piece.
You probably said Discovery was the most over rated team in the tour last year. Teams go through re-building phases. Disco did last year, and it worked out pretty well for them this year. Pretty much everything at CSC was built around Basso, and that came crumbling down a year ago. GC contender riders don’t grow on trees. They have shifted focus to some other riders, and I would imagine we will see a good performance from them next year.
Ha - nope, not at Mason tomorrow. In Missouri right now for my wife’s family reunion. Got my last nasty run in (2:37 mins, nasty hills, 93 degrees and humid) and biking solo 100 miles from Jefferson City to just east of St. Louis tomorrow before the family hauls me on on the way back to Cincy. Yuk - but good for IM Lou I hope.
Sorry to use you for the point, but I figured Erik would appreciate it and you are such an easy target since you are such a nice easy going guy anyway. Hard to say anything bad if you try!
Some of you guys crack me up. The only teams that could even argue for having a better Tour are Discovery, Quick Step, and possibly Barloworld. Anyone who says CSC is overrated doesn’t follow cycling closely enough. #1 ranked team the last two years with a good chance at 3 in a row.
And for people saying CSC doesn’t have guys for the GC: 4th place in the Tour and 2nd in the Giro = good GC contenders.
Btw, watch out for Sastre in the Vuelta. He’s one of the few guy that is able to ride back-to-back grand tours at a very high level.
