Creaking while out of the saddle

My bike has developed this irriating creak, only when I am out of the saddle. Of course it is hard to pinpoint while riding. When I sit back down, noise stops. When I am out of the saddle, it seems to creak on the down stroke…?

Seat post, skewers, front fork, cracked frame, bottom bracket, take it to a mechanic because you can’t diagnose on ST…?

Pedals, especially if you use Looks. Could also be a loose spoke or a loose skewer. These would at least be a good place to start. Certainly easier to fix, not to mention cheaper, than a cracked frame.

mine creaks too. i try to sit.
when you diagnose your problem, tell me. I’d love to figure out why the old goat makes so much noise.

I can not pin point a creak on my QR lucero. I do have Carbon look pedals on it. Have they been a problem? It creaks in and out of the saddle. I cant see any cracks around BB area.

Had that issue on my MTB, turned out to be the alum. chainring bolts. Guess I didn’t generate enough stress/flex while seated. Disassembled, greased, and re-tightened… easy fix.

My most recent annoying creak (I’ve had many) was fixed by tightening my cleats
.

Check skewers.
If its a square taper/octalink/etc, check torque between crank arms and bottom bracket
Check bottom bracket.

My bet would be the bottom bracket, but it takes the most to check.

Agree with checking front skewer. Look for grit between skewer and drop outs and loose front hub.

I could have sworn it was the bottom bracket on my roadie. Took it out and recleaned it a few times with no success. One day I decided to clean and regrease the chainring bolts, problem solved.

Like you, I purchased a Lucero Lite from Bonktown and developed a creak that got worse over time. It turned out to be a loose bottom bracket. Just needed to be tightened and the problem was solved. I’m liking my bike.

Can also be the handlebar stem. Unbolt, clean, apply a thin layer of grease and tighten well.

Out of the saddle eh’. Is this creek happening while the frame is under stress (sprinting, hard climb)?
Check where dry carbon meets dry carbon. Aero seat posts like to creek while frames are under tension.
Is your seat post shiny or flat carbon?

Happed to me twice in the last two years. Both times, removed the bottom bracket, cleaned, lubed, re-installed. Problem solved.

It’s your BB, 99% sure.

I had the same type of noise a couple years ago and took the BB out and even took it to the shop and they said it looked perfect but to clean it and reinstall. I did and the noise was still present. After trying several things throughout the first half of the summer I took the entire bike in and it turned out to be the front hub. Must have been the extra side to side pressure I was putting on the front wheel that was doing it. Try putting on a different front wheel and see if it still happens.

tighten the crank arms with a torque wrench.

Most likely it’s your headset or the front wheel dropouts.
Clean both and lemme know if the noise persists.

It’s been covered previously, but my road bike has creaking that gets solved by cleaning the front dropouts and the skewer of the front wheel.

Sometimes even if bottom bracket is all snug it will creak, solution is to have it taken apart and threads regreased by your mechanic.

OP:

Put the bike on the trainer and isolated the problem to the HEAD TUBE. The reason is was creaking out of the saddle is the side to side tension on the frame.

What are the recommendations as far as lubrication etc. What about those bearings in there?
