Crazy or not Crazy

So I have a swollen lymph node on my neck that im having removed on the 11th of aug, and my doctor told me i would be able to do anything for about 7 days until i get the stitches out etc.

So i told my coach and he said that was BS and he wanted to name of my Doc so he could talk to him.

He also asked what time i was having the surgery on the 11th and if i wanted to work out beforehand…

Crazy or not crazy
Crazy. You pay your coach to pay attention to triathlon. You pay the doc to pay attention to your health.

John

I would listen to your doc before your coach.

Both crazy.

The correct answer is listen to your body. Everything else is just a guess.

p.s. I heal lousily.

Did your coach stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night? Maybe he should perform the surgery. Sounds like a very wise man.

Crazy is going out and running an ultramarathon.

Completely blowing off your doctor’s advice because your coach thinks he knows better is just stupid.

Now this must be getting really difficult… Listen to my surgeon who is an expert in medicine, my coach who knows how to swim/bike/run, or some anonymous strangers on a message board?

How about option 3. Get another doctor and find out why you lymphnode is swollen.

Well your doctor just needs to HTFU and get you up and running within 48 hours.

All kidding aside the doctor says what he has to say to cover his butt. If you feel like working out sooner do it. If you don’t, seven days won’t be that big a deal.

I have to admit I like your coach though, maybe he’s a dumbass but he’s my kind of dumbass. It’s never a bad idea to get in a workout just before surgery in my book.

I have an even better idea. Forego the anesthesia and request that a sterile exercise bike be brought into the OR instead of an operating table. Next, have the nurses apply a local anesthetic to your neck and strap your torso to something solid so that the surgeon can safely slice your neck open to remove the lymph node. While this is happening, your coach can both assist the surgeon with the procedure and shout for you to increase your wattage during the LT intervals. Using the computer in the OR and a web cam, take suggestions from Slowtwitch users regarding etomology and pathology of the lymph node. They have typewriters and sweet nicknames, so they can be trusted by you and your surgeon. Because your coach is USAT certified, he can close allowing the surgeon can make a few putts before his tee time. Stretch afterward.

Take care of yourself. Listen to your doctor, not your ‘coach’

…“They (Slowtwitch users) have typewriters and sweet nicknames, so they can be trusted by you and your surgeon…”

Typewriters? What year do you believe it is?

I like your coach’s spirit, but I think you should listen to the Dr… I would also show up well rested to the surgery, your body will be taxed enough.

What year??? What planet do you think this is? You’re an accountant giving medical advice contrary to the OP’s physician and surgeon. Does this strike you as bizarre? You said that in “your book, there’s nothing wrong with exercise before surgery”. This is astonishing and laughable at the same time. Stick to giving advice about wheels, doing your clients taxes and making weird references to your cat.

Fu#king crazy…

You are way out of line giving advice like that. No one in their right mind stretches afterwards.
