But I’ve now had two falls within the past three weeks on railroad tracks. Two separate locations; one day was excusable as it was pouring rain. This morning, however, was just plain frustrating. A busy intersection with literally like 5 different sets of T tracks (here in Boston) and lots of traffic. End of the ride to boot. I got distracted watching cars, and the next thing I know, I go down. No significant injuries, bruised hip and wrist, but otherwise the bike and I are ok.
So my question is, is this just one of those random things that come in waves, or do others out there take falls semi-frequently?
Any one of those, plus a few others I can think of, is a sufficient cause for a fall. I don’t know that the falls occur in waves, however. Random yes, unless you’re Tyler Hamilton.
Anyhow, I was motivated to answer not so much by the topic but by your screen name. When I am accompanied on a run by my friend (she is too fast to actually run with me), she rides an old, old Sears bicycle nicknamed “Big Red”.
Yeah, I know, who cares. Try to stay focused and stay upright!
I’ve only been riding competitivly for 5 years and from that experience it seems to me that 1 crash per year is to be expected. Riding in the rain and crossing 5 sets of tracks at once seem risky. It’s best to cross tracks at a 90 degree angle, not always possible when riding in traffic.
Good thing I am tough as nails! LOL.
Seriously dude…must be all that lifting you do So if things do happen in threes, I wonder when//where #3 will occur?
