Crank Brothers Quattro Pedals

Anyboby use these? I’d like to hear the dirt on float, release, etc.

Thanks.

Jim

I use them. I left speedplay x-series for them. A few conclusions after many miles-

  1. Their biggest advantage is the cleat. It’s solid, bombproof, and walkable. Even runnable- I wouldn’t use anything else for transitions now

  2. They have float, maybe 7 degrees or so- I don’t remeber the literature, but they float w/ no resistance- I just personally don’t need or use any.

  3. They release easily, in fact the easiest of any pedals I’ve ever used. I have them set at the default 15 degree release, but they can be set for 20 if you’re a “pro” and want to be held in more.

All in all I love these pedals and recommend them any chance I get. They are inexpensive, well-made, rugged, and light ( when you count the minimal cleat weight). Get them and you’ll like them.

My LBS recommended them when I bought my first road bike last summer. Though I haven’t really tried anything else, I love mine. Entry from both sides, they have a platform you can pedal on with street shoes if need be, and they’re easy to get into and out of.

They are the best I’ve used and perfect for triathletes that want to run transitions without subscribing to the “the only way is to leave your shoes on your bike” fallacy.

I’m sure their awesome but a friend of mine tried them and couldn’t stand them. She rides Candy SLs on her mtn bike so we thought these would be perfect. Anyways after a bunch of trying we went out and bought another pair of Speedplays… She just couldn’ get clipped into the damn pedals. Other than that they seem pretty nice although that pedal spindle bearing housing thingy is freakin huge!

I’m still not entirely sure why I should want the Quattros rather than my regular Egg Beaters. Or the Candys, for that matter. Maybe the road cleat makes a big difference when actually on the pedal, I don’t know. Standard Egg Beaters are great, even on a road bike, in my experience. They just wouldn’t be walkable with a road shoe, since it’s just the metal cleat.

Yeah the beaters would probably work just as good, but you really want the quattro cleat housing… It is the standard cleat, but with plastic around it. This allows you to run in them.

It’s not the only way, it’s just the fastest way. Nobody subscribes to it being the only way, so there is no fallacy. Surely you aren’t suggesting that it isn’t the fastest way are you? Can 100 (?) ITU professionals be wrong?

True.

At the moment, I’m just using high-end carbon sole Adidas MTB shoes with all my bikes. That sort of negates the problem of not being able to run in my shoes. The weight penalty is negligible, too. I’ll probably get the Quattros when I get around to buying road shoes.

If you’re already sold on the quattro’s, use the performance bike coupon posted here (**99CSHIP) **& buy 'em (blue only) shipped for $85. Can’t beat that deal anywhere.
