I was riding on the trainer this weekend and my foot slipped and unclipped causing my heel to get stuck in chain and causing the chain to fall. After getting the chain back on, I noticed the front derailleur hanger/mount is cracked. The issue being FELT IA 10 uses a rivet to hold it to the frame. The chain is on big rind in front and seldom do I need to shift to the small ring unless I am doing a ridiculous Zwift climb, which I can easily avoid. Any advice if the frame is toast or if it can be re-riveted and replaced? They have the piece on their website, no in stock. Any advice or thoughts or guidance is much appreciated. I am racing in 5 weeks.
That was a poor design, I know of others who have broken in normal use. Felt did not want to do out of warranty repair. Perhaps a carbon repair outfit could fix it over the winter?
Other option would be a wide narrow front single ring, you might not need as much gear as you think, especially with some big corset in the back.
Just had this same issue on an older Felt B12 which was quite common. I just re-riveted the part on. If you need to drill it out that should not be a problem as well. really simply fix but I agree a bad design as it seems like that area get corroded and the rivets fail.
Yeah I’d say either a reputable bike repair place (like calfee design) or use as an opportunity to go with a single chainring.
