Looking for some feedback on staying in Cozumel outside of the hotels. I was looking at airbnbs in town, but dont know if getting to T1 and/or swim start will be a pain. any feedback would be appreciated.
Not sure which race you are doing , but I’ve done both the half and full in Coz including during COVID last year. We have always stayed south of Chakanaab (vrbo at Residencias Reef next to Secrets) both times and had no trouble getting to either of the swim starts or around the island without needing a rental car.
There will be plenty of taxis available; and busses depart from the major resorts in town and south to swim start (or to T-1 then they have shuttles to swim start up in the marina for the full). Also if you have a spectator you can even rent a scooter have them shuttle you to the start which is what we did last year. If you do stay outside of town , finding a taxi post-race to haul you and your bike/gear back is also easy.
The other post is correct, lots of taxis and taxivans will be available, I also stayed further south from town and was able to secure a ride to the startline. Dont sweat this to much
I would just stay at one of the resorts.
Thank you for providing zero value.
Thank you!

Wow, you ask for help and get all snitty because one person provide a valid opinion, but failed to back it up with details. Ouch!
There were always douches on ST, but I believe as society has gotten douchier so has ST.
For the full we stayed at a resort, but it basically didn’t matter. If you stay in town then there will be plenty of taxis. Anything outside of the downtown area and not a resort is likely to be challenging where you might have to walk.
Plan on biking your bike to T1 the day before the race and taking a taxi back as finding a minivan tax will be a challenge.
Getting your bike from T2 after the race required me to bike in the dark. This was concerning as there were no lights and it was probably 5 miles back to the hotel. Make sure you have a backpack that can contain all your gear or a good sherpa.
Setup a meet point as finding my spouse was a logistical challenge. I saw her at the finish, but after coming out of the massage I couldn’t find her. I was supposed to go to dinner with her, but we didn’t set a place in advance. I also was incoherent so following unfamiliar streets with marginal spanish would’ve been difficult. I also didn’t have a cellphone that had a mexican plan so no technology. Our only common place was the hotel so I biked there. She eventually made it to the hotel bringing take-out.
If you are flying into Cozumel you should be okay, but if Cancun you need a minivan to transport your bike and need special awareness at the ferry. We had a rough ride across the bay from Playa.
Thank you!
Sure thing. Cozumel is a great race if you are prepared for the weather and able to ride aero the entire time. The island and people are great and extremely supportive of the race.
Good luck a s PM me if you need any other info.
We stayed in a magnificent condo 0n.The.Beach! We found it on AirbnB, so a once in a lifetime experience, as was the race. It’s like swimming in an aquarium and the best swim of my 14 Ironman races.
We also rented a car and had no trouble getting anywhere. The condo was less than 15 minutes from the swim start. If you do stay outside of downtown (and I would always recommend being away from traffic and the hubub) then a car is necessary.
Ben,
I’m not sure what happened to your previous comment. I was posting for a buddy who after three stints in the dessert returned with some afghani shrapnel and a souvenir colostomy. As a result he has dietary restrictions and hence the reason he did not want to be forced to a hotel menu. He actually lives in Danbury. I relayed your thoughts about his race outcome and hope you get to meet at a local event.
