Cozumel Half (HIM, 70.3, 112.9 whatevs)

The athelte guide is out and I found this interesting for all of y’alls:
“El Comité Organizador recomienda ampliamente NO
mandar la bicicleta por paquetería desde el extranjero,
a través de alguna compañía o servicio de
envíos. Lo anterior debido a que los procesos de
aduanas en México, la liberación de mercancías y en
este caso, de bicicletas, toma demasiado tiempo,
por lo que el riesgo de que la bicicleta no llegue a
tiempo es muy alto.”

so basically they’re saying bring your bike with you - don’t use a bike transport company.

Also this year they’re doing 3 strikes and you’re out (and translated it literally which gives me the thought it came obligatory from outside FMTRI) of drafting, littering and other things. One or more infractions of any rule and you’re DQd. Is that the normal up there too? I don’t remember this from last year but I don’t think I read the athlete guide last year either.

Any idea what the reasoning is behind not using a bike transport company? Was going to use tribike trans for December.

Did it last year and there was no bike transport available for the 70.3. We took ours on the plane and it worked out fine. I would not trust shipping it down there.

Drafting, penalties etc - kind of funny they would suggest enforcing anything. It was completely disorganized / lawless by what I would consider to be normal standards. When we did the the 70.3, people just started without waiting for the officials to say go - e…g, by the time the officials started us, 1/2 of my wave was already approaching the 1st buoy - they just got in the water started swimming while other people in the wave were still trying to get off of the dock - no one seemed to care, it was just they way things were done from what I could tell. Drafting - LOL, it was all over the course - in the last 10 miles or so I was swarmed by a pack of 20+ riders not just drafting but in an all out peloton. There were literally two “officials” on a scooter riding to the left of the group, almost like a chase car, doing nothing and saying nothing. All-in-all we liked the race, but my wife and I agreed we had never seen such blatant disregard for rules from both of the officials and the participants. Perhaps they are trying to change that???

IIRC it was due to Aduana. I’m guessing it is in response to some folks who used a company who had trouble getting bikes through Aduana.
