Council Bluffs/Omaha Bike Routes

My son and his high school robotics team just missed qualifying for the World Championships and are consoling themselves with a trip to the US Open Championships being held over spring break in Council Bluffs, IA. So, I will have my bike in Council Bluffs and mornings or evenings free to ride while he and his team are prepping.

Are there any great routes on the area? I would love to find a 40-50 mile loop for a morning ride or maybe an evening group ride. We will be there Tuesday through Friday, next week.

Any locals on the board?

I’m in Lincoln but I’d suggest looking at Team Nebraska Triathlon’s facebook page and/or posting something there. Lake Manawa is a 6-mile loop that is pancake flat, if you wanted to run there. The Black Squirrel Tri uses that loop for its sprint bike course (2 laps). Strava also has a couple of Council Bluff routes listed.

Thanks. I saw a few rides on Mapmyride as well, but wanted to get some groundlevel info. We are spoiled here in Wisconsin with lots great paved roads to support our dairy industry and it does not seem like Iowa has this. I saw lots of references to gravel roads and I was hoping to find more paved routes, or I need to change my bike or wheel choice.
