Anyone know what the cost of Ironman will be for 2010? Just curious as I am going to volunteer this year and sign up for next year, but would like to know how many pennies that I have to save.
Thanks!

2009 IM Wisconsin is around $550. I would guess this price will hold for the next year or so.
With the increased cost of an IM and all the other associated costs in these tough times I am definitely not doing one in 2010
I do not think you should be worried about traveling to the race to sign up.
You wont get a real answer, but I’d guess $600. I’d be shocked if it goes down from the current 550, it may not go up though. To my mind its a lot, certainly enough that I prefer the non IM brand, but thats my preference, I think they should charge more. They don’t seem to have maximized the supply / demand yet.

I bet next year will be a VERY lean year for IM. i don’t think the cost of the race is THAT bad yet, however, the outrageous costs of the hotels/food/everything else is what bugs me. They will be hit next year as well I bet and I for one won’t feel sorry for them one bit.
I don’t feel sorry for them, but I have no ill will either. I did one a few years ago, the atmosphere was pretty cool, but for the cost I’ll stick with the independants. I kind of look at it like climbing Everest or ownig a Ferrari. I’d be interested in doing having both, but I don’t have the money. No big deal, there are lots of things I can do within my budget.

Agreed. In November, I volunteered at IMFL. But the actual race isn’t where most of the money will go. I won’t even need a flight, and will spend well over $1000 total. I spent probably $250 for the weekend in Panama City to volunteer. Then the race itself was just under $550. This November, I’ll probably stay in Florida for a week or so. Lets estimate of the low side and say $500 for food/hotel/entertainment during that time. I’ll also be renting from race day wheels. Another $125. Then theres the 10 hour drive, both ways. Gas…say $150. Thats probably still not enough and I’m already over $1500.
Not saying its not worth it, just saying the costs add up fast.
$400/500/800, the cost of the race itself is the least of your concerns.
Flights/Lodging and a divorce lawyer are the big ticket items…
