Cosmetic surgery/body modification for aero gainz

Do any of the various sanctioning bodies prohibit performance enhancing cosmetic surgery? I’m seeing more and more Brazilian butt lifts lately and I can’t help but wonder how many watts a tailcone-shaped ass might save. Then I wonder about shoulder implants to smooth the transition from head to neck. Or tailcone-shaped calves. Or webbed fingers & toes for swimming… Maybe golf ball dimpling?

Another random aero rule thought: would it be against any rules to rig up a battery powered fan to keep an aero helmet well ventilated?

I mean that’s basically a jet engine exhaust so you’re getting too many watts for that one
.

Would it be possible to shape your backside into some kind of fancy exhaust, that processes flatulence and gives you a turbo boost on certain sections?

I imagine tricep fairing implants would probably give nice Cda boost. A strategically waxed mustache would also help direct air into the gaping mouth, basically like an F1 intake.

This has already been an issue in aquatic sports. I think the athlete is from France.

I had a doctor suggest some form of scarring to build up webbing between toes and fingers for faster swimming.

Hello Oddl0t and All,

A nice batch of coarse cloned hair … combed to an aft faring on the calf and extending beyond the heel fairing should give measurable results… Also some hair to smooth and seal the helmet/back joint.

Our Human Ancestors Had Tails; And Other Things Our Bodies Used To Have. Humans weren’t always shaped like this: our bodies evolved over time from the ancestors of primates, to primates, and finally to our current modern species — Homo sapiens. … In fact, we can see traces of tails in embryos still in the womb.Sep 13, 2014

A proper shaped tail should be useful in lessening aft drag on the bike… . A little work with the CRISPR should do the job … again tradeoffs in weight and usefulness in swimming (American Crocodiles swim 20 mph) and running need to be considered.

And as proviously noted some hair fairing on the triceps and as previously noted webbed feet and hands (and forearms fins) are a plus.

Obviously removing all body parts that do not contribute to ‘Faster’ should be removed …

Otoplasty to remove the ears should help swimming and running … The ‘Double Van Gogh’ for serious triathletes … Of course a swim cap obviates the need in most cases.

Following Amazon legend … for triathletes … The ‘Double Amazon’ although some careful testing is in order to see if a loss of bouancy is worth improved aero performance and weight reduction.

The right breast of the young girls was bound or removed so that it did not hinder them from being excellent archers. The left breast was left intact for their future babies. By folk etymology, this practice is where the name “Amazon” (Greek, a- meaning “without” and mazos meaning “breast”) comes from.

Keeping in mind the shape we are shooting for …

Jonkheer Sebastiaan Bowier (born August 23, 1987) is a Dutch cyclist. In September 2013, he achieved a speed of 133.78 kilometres per hour (83.13 mph) in a human powered vehicle (HPV), breaking the previous world record.

I have just thought of a great way to improve saddle discomfort in the aero tuck position…

Would this be considered “low-hanging aero fruit”?

There was a great April Fools gag the year Armstrong broke his collarbone. Someone photographed an X-ray of plates in both collarbones with a caption that said Armstrong had both collarbones shorted to reduce the width of his shoulders to improve his CdA.

I fell for that one hook, line, and sinker. I just seemed so plausible, given all the other crazy stuff going on in cycling.

probably the easiest ones for aero gains (for an average sized male triathlete/TTer)

Breaking the collarbones and allowing them to heal in a narrower configuration to allow for a tighter tuck.
Breast implants would help close off that front as well.
For the more wiry guys, likely some lower belly/ hip / butt fat would smooth things out.

Basically making a man shaped closer to a woman would be a good aero improvement a lot of the time.

I see what you did there…

Large chests, though, are bad for aero. I remember John Cobb and I were both speaking at a Tri club meeting once and he was addressing this very thing. He hilariously, in his Texas drawl, said to the ladies when it comes to large breasts: “That’s good for me! Bad for you.” The whole crowd was rolling. I had to follow that. Following John Cobb on stage is akin to being the next act after Dave Chappelle. Don’t do it.

yes, 20 years ago when I was single I’d have had a lot of interest in studying the correct proportions

Unfortunately, I seem to have overdone that part, and more than nullified any aero gains…

haha right there with you. It was fun trying to get to the line… but I seemed to have overshot it and just kept going
