Hey guys I really need your help. I had some itband problems over the last few years. I have done everything to fix it pt , foam roller. etc. Everything was going really well training and I have ironman coming up and My doctor gave me a cortisone shot to clear up and inflammation, never had a sot before so I didn’t know what to expect. Well about 5 hrs after the shot I was in miserable pain like a tootchache in the knees. THe next day could barely walk. Like I said I wasn’t having much problems I just wanted to be sure I could get a good race. Im 3 days out from the shot and today I tried to run a little and it felt like a full blown itband flare up. Im so aggrevated. Has anyone experienced anything like this. It has gotten a lot better everyday. Everything I have read said its a cortisone flare. Any help of what to do my race is next week
You need to go back to your doctor.
I had a cortisone shot in my foot once that resulted in massive swelling. Wound up on prednisone…
Usually it is sore in the spot of injection. I never had one in the IT band though. I think it will be better in a few more days but I would call my doctor since your race is so close.
I’ve had two in my knee and they had been absolutely wonderful. I’m back to normal within a day. I had one last year and one two years before that. No pain at all and all my pain was gone by the next day
He have me the shots on the outside of knee. I was hoping to heal a little not be out of training. Tomorrow will be 4 days maybe it will go away . I been icing a lot with Advil, foam rolling. My luck I guess
post injection flare…he probably injected some of the steroid directly into the fascia instead of underneath it which is causing the pain…but it will resolve over time …5 days at most. Stop worrying …ice and stretch but lay of foam rollers and deep massage. what’s the cause of your IT band friction syndrome?? Check your feet…if you have really high arches then you need to run in a neutral (pure cushion shoe…no motion control) shoe that will allow you to pronate…maybe put a small wedge under your 5th metatarsal head to cause more pronation.
Cortisone is not magic… doc poked you… should resolve soon… I put this together a little while a go on ITB give it a read http://scottproscia.wordpress.com/2013/03/02/beating-the-band/
