Personally, I’d consider the Giro Aerohead sans visor (a-la Wout Van Aert). Not a lot of vents in the shell, but lots of grooves in the foam that allow air to flow inside the helmet (entering from the hairline and out the back). My n=1 is that it hasn’t been hot for me (even with the visor), and I did Nats in it on a day with a 100^F heat index.
I used my aero road helmet today on a cafe spin on the Tri bike.
I can not put into words how much better it felt even though I never thought the Kask Beluga was hot, actually thought it was cooling.
Didn’t notice a difference in speed at the power I was at, looked back and it was at least Strava eye test the same. May test it properly but under 5w a difference there may be a TT helmet for sale soon.
What temps do people think it makes sense to consider a switch to aero road helmet? First time doing Puerto Rico 70.3 next March and am wondering if that’s the smart move as temps look to be about the same. Anyone with experience in PR have a thought ?
I wore my LG P-09 sans visor and with halo sweatband earlier this year at Rockford 70.3 which was very hot and humid. I worked well for me and heat didn’t really bother me on bike (we did have a brutal head wind which might helped with cooling but was also pushing harder).
