Converting Dartfish .dpa files to imovie

I had some swim lessons using the Dartfish software. Does anyone know how to convert the .dpa files to a format that I can download to imovie?

Dartfish has its own forum at http://forum.dartfish.com

I took a quick look but didn’t find an appropriate answer as there are several factors. Maybe asking a question on the dart fish specific forum might work.

It can also depend on which version of iMovie you have. Some specs here: http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/

My suggestion would be to try and convert your files to m4p or mov format using handbrake.

The swim labs people helped me out with this so I could send it to my coach. You can rip the files off the dvd they give you. And then use a file change program like allok to switch them to whichever format you need.

Awesome. Thank you.

if that works - save several steps and using Handbrake as mentioned above to go straight from DVD to m4v. imovie will open m4v.

Exactly!

If the file is a playable DVD, and you are on a mac, you can use handbrake or mpeg streamclip. Both are free and work wonderfully to convert movie files.

There is one important setting to mention. If after a conversion you notice horizontal lines throughout the movie, check on the de-interlace button and convert again.

Yes, imovie can recognize m4v and another mp4 format. please keep in mind that handbrake or mpeg streamclip cant rip dvd with copy protection.

Smith.

Did anyone get this to work? I’m also trying to convert a .dpa file on a DVD I got from Swimlabs and none of the programs mentioned in this thread recognized the DVD or the .dpa file itself (Aimersoft, Handbreak, Streamclip). Basically I want to convert the files to watch on my iPhone without the Dartviewer app., and it seem like these programs all rely on the DVD being playable by a DVD player or DVD player app, not via Dartviewer.

thanks!

Second hit from google “.dpa to iMovie”

Change .dpa extension to .zip
Inside the archive you’ll find several files:
PerformanceAnalysis.xml : describe the analysis.
PerformanceAnalysis.swf : the template of the media book.
PerformanceAnalysis.html : an html wrapper for the previous file.
DWSettings.xml : configuration infos ?
logo.swf : not sure it is used anywhere…

And the other files represent the media content in itself.

What you want to do is open the PerformanceAnalysis.swf or .html in Safari or Firefox.
