So I have my '08 Scott Plasma Ltd frame with DA just hanging in my garage and am debating just throwing some DA shifters and drop bars on it. I have it in the ST classifieds right now and the only offer I have gotten was for the saddle. The ST angle on it is 76 degrees so I figured I could just slide the saddle back a little to get more of a road bike feel. I think the Scott CR1 ST angle is 74.5 so it would not be that difficult.
Would anyone else do this or is it a bad idea? I think if I did do it I would probably ride it about 30% of the time and my new tri bike 70%.
It’s quite doable if not optimal. Just don’t post this on a roadie forum unless you’ve got thick skin.
We had a guy in our roadie group several years back with 78 degree QR Kilo frame fitted with drop bars, STI, set back seat post with seat slammed right back and a bunch of spacers under the stem. Gotta wonder why he just didn’t get a road bike. There is also a guy on this forum that always posts a picture of his P2K set up as a road bike whenever this is brought up. Why he doesn’t just get a Soloist frame is anybody’s guess.
If it was me I’d ebay your Scott frame and pick up a good roadie, unless you’re planning on converting back into a TT/tri bike in the future.
I have a Kestrel KM40 set up with drop bars. Works pretty well with the short vision clip-ons in the mix, but one thing I do notice is more weight on the front end, more fatigue in the arms over a long ride.
