Convert tri bike to SS city bike

So I got my retired TTX hanging in the garage and I was considering selling the frame set but now I am thinking about converting it into a single speed city bike. Has anybody else done this? Can you post some pics of the drive train or modifications so I can see what I am in for. It is just a shame to have the thing lying around not riding it anymore so I figure this might be the way to get t on the road again.

I have never done a SS build before, so any tips on the conversion will be helpful.

The first thing you are going to want to do is change your username to ttx_ss
.

No matter what you do with the TTX, it won’t be the strangest TT single around…

Brad

I always thought this Cervelo P2 fixie looked great. Has a few detailed images to maybe help you out?

vertical dropouts on the TTX?

Generally, I would think anything with steeper than std road geometry would not make for a great city bike, because of the need to get weight back suddenly and frequently in dealing with traffic, pedestrians, road hazards, curbs, etc.

I think so, they are the ones that came bonded in the frame. I do have the option to get some SS dropouts bonded, but I has hoping to avoid that in case I do end up getting rid of the frame if the SS thing doesn’t work out after a while.

With vertical dropouts you are going to need a single speed conversion kit: http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1031512_-1___

Personally I’d recommend selling the frame and buying a track/ss frame.

or White Industry’s eccentric ENO hub…or possibly finding the “perfect gear”, as most times there is a gear that works based on chainstay length.
