Conversion BB for Specialized Shiv TT

I want to run a compact crank on my Shiv for IMMOO this year. Got a screaming deal on an Ultegra in January, so grabbed it, planning on using a Praxis conversion BB.

Just bought a Venge frame, so want to move my Specialized crank from the Shiv to the Venge and finally install the Ultegra compact.

Praxis is currently out of stock for their BB with no arrival date. Seeing as how this is impacting the build for me Venge, I need a solution ASAP.

Any other options? Thanks in advance.

I swapped out the FSA cranks on my Shiv this year for Ultegra best move ever. I had the local bike shop help me get the parts then I did the install. Just needed a bb adapter which I think came from FSA looks like a piece of aluminum pipe just stalled that with the loctite it came with and let it sit 24 hrs. Then was able to use the shimano ultegra bottom bracket just screw right in place. Now the new crankset slide in and works perfect. Super easy to do probably took 20 min max work to remove old and put new on and bike rides 100x better now.

Why did you swap? I’m running the carbon FSA SL-K Light on my Shiv expert and love them…

cant you just use the shimano adapters that would have come with either the Venge or Shiv frame (I think wheels manufacturing makes them) that just plug into the OSBB cups?

That is looking like my best option at this point. Need to call WM tomorrow and see exactly what parts I need. Then I need to get another OSBB for the Venge. That will hopefully solve the issue.

We’ll see…

Of course, Specialized is out of the internal mount for the SP battery, so I need to figure out how to secure the battery now, as well.

your Venge already ‘has’ an OSBB, you should just be able to install the specialized crank with the bearing cartridges that came with the bike

For the Shiv, you just need the delrin cups (which should be installed), the bearings (which should have come with the bike) and those adapters (which specialize lists as S121600003). The solution is not ideal, it tends to creak a little (specialized now ships their new bikes with alloy cups epoxied in rather than the delrin ones, they supposedly reduce the creaking and are much tougher to remove than the old ones).

http://service.specialized.com/collateral/ownersguide/new/assets/pdf/0000038253_R1.pdf should help too

Also, on the battery mount, I have installed the seatpost battery on 3 bikes now, just wrap it in some foam or bar tape, odds are it’ll end up more secure than it would with the mount they’d sell you. Have never had an issue and have put thousands of miles on each bike.

Thanks, Ollie. I’ll try that for the battery. Also heard of people using Good Stuff expanding foam to help secure the battery.

No BB was included with the frame set, however…not a big deal. Talked to WM today and think I have a solution using their BB and shims.
