Continental Supersonic Review 20mm

I’ve now put a few miles on this tire, with various peoples and though I would share. Many have been curious about this tire as it has been doing really well on the rolling resistance tests and is available in narrow 20mm sizes.

I installed it with a latex tube on a 2012 HED Jet6, it fits beautifully on the wide c2 rim. I’ve taken it around some corners hard and confirmed that it doesn’t pop off the rim or anything from being too narrow for the rim.

My wife performed as she usually does running one up front at the State TT championship. My team mate performed above expectations on it the next day in the Team event. I just set a PR at the tuesday night TT on it just now, an 8 mile event on roads with plenty of gravel and broken glass on them.

No flats yet after about 100 miles, and not any appreciable wear either. Some of the flashing is still there along the center of the tire in fact.

Ran into another STer who had just put the same tire on his HED Jets, and he also set a PR. Not sure if he ran it on the rear. I had mine only on the front.

I’ve got both this tire and the Bonty RXL 19 TT

The Conti has lower RR. Bonty is a bit more narrow.

Not certain which is the “faster” setup, but on a 24mm rim they both look good.

You need to shut the f__k up and quit giving away secrets!

And having said that, I raced 'em for the first time at my state TT a couple weekends ago. Fastest open-road 40k I’ve ever done and 1:20 faster over the same course than the year before. Used 'em with 19 mm Jet 9 up front and 19 mm Jet disc in the rear on a P4. Latex tubes, of course. Me likey … very much. Me win!

Same here, my ‘other’ setup is a 19mm bonty on a 19mm Jet 9, which fits like a glove

but the PR was on the Jet 6 with the conti!

HED says the 2012 Jet 6 is faster than the old Jet 9 too, so who knos.

What PSI did you end up running? I might have to give the 20mm a try up front. Would be curious to see some field data against it and the 23mm as the 23 rolls significantly better than the 20mm. My experience with the wear is that even if you have that center strip that you can go from tread to cords very quickly.

about 105-110psi

I will say it nicely one time.
Shhhhhhhhhh!!!,

The SuperSonic was so fast the finishline camera almost missed me:

Yep, they are one fast tire. Mine have been working awesome on my Zipp 808 and Renn 575. Rode my fastest 40k by over 2 minutes this year on them. I don’t even care if they don’t last a season they are just fast tires.

Where does everyone buy their tires? ProBikeKit?

Where does everyone buy their tires? ProBikeKit?

I told my LBS to order a bunch.
“23mm?” they asked.

“NO DAMNIT 20mm!!!”

and there they are!

Care to send some over to Houston? Maybe I need to drive to Austin over the weekend…

I’m certain one of the LBS in houston can order continental tires. Just tell them “this tire is the new hotness, order me a couple and another dozen for the store.”

Any idea if these are the same as AFM tested in Rev 9 or have they been updated?

Not sure, I know he has talked about them testing really well, I don’t remember if rev 9 includes the latest ones.

My memory is
Jack: Adam, pretty please order me some tires so my wife doesnt crush my dreams by as much on the next TT
Adam: Well I hope you want them in 20mm
Jack: 20mm? Adam you are a genius!

Where can I buy these bad bays online? I’m looking on google.com and everything is overseas.

BTW what tire are you running in the rear? Would you run this tire for an Ironman or is it too risky?

Jack, Jack, Jack…

Really? n=1 anecdotes without any supporting data? I expected so much more from you.

PM ATC above, maybe he can send you some.

I am running a 23mm conti gp 4000s in the rear.

for an ironman i think I would go with something that has an anti puncture layer, since saving a few more seconds is less important there.

I might use the conti SS if I was close to a KQ or something though.

n = 3 bro, learn to count!
