I have been using the Conti 3000s for the last few years but it looks like they are being replaced. Has anybody used the 4000s yet? If so, what do you think?

Continental Grand Prix 4000
Continental’s GP3000 was already one of the fastest, lightest and most durable road clinchers available, With the GP4000, Continental has improved it in almost every way. 20% less rolling resistance Lighter weight Better puncture protection Higher mileage Anti-aging compound and tire wear indicators
Improved Puncture Resistance - The all new Vectran belt (developed and patented by Continental) delivers even better puncture protection than the GP3000. Vectran is more flexible and lighter than other puncture resistant materials, offers more cut resistance than Aramid, and is five times stronger than steel. It saves 5g of weight and surpasses the flexibility of the Nylon double breaker layer used in the GP3000.
New Tread Compound - Continental has improved on their innovative Silica rubber compound, increasing the handling threshold for safer and faster cornering while reducing rolling resistance. A new anti-cracking formula reduces the affects of UV and increases mileage.
Available in 10 different colors and 4 sizes (650x23, 700x20/23/25). Kevlar bead, folding tire. Max pressure: 125psi. Weight: 190g (650x23/700x20), 205g (700x23), 215g (700x25).
Come on Tom, nice is what you say about a bad blind date when you are trying to be polite. Do you have anything specific? What are the differences between the 3000’s and the 4000’s other then the number 1000 and a few bucks?
the most notable difference that I’ve heard of is the use of Vectran in the GP4000 vs a kevlar layer in the GP3000. The process they use to place the Vectran layer in the tire is patented by Conti and I guess they’ve been researching it for years. The Vectran is supposed to blow away anything else in puncture resistance for a competition tire.
I used a pair at the weekend on a demanding course. Steep ascents, steep descents with very tight cornering.
I’ve used GP 3000’s till now.
I will continue to race on GP 4000 from now on. Wow. They felt so sticky, so sure and going up a 25% hill they just rolled on. Wonderful tires, well worth the money. They may not last as long as they feel softer, stickier than the 3’s.
… and going up a 25% hill they just rolled on.
Are you sure about that being a 25% hill??? Even most pro cyclists would need a triple on a 25% grade, or would just get off and push. Heck, it would be hard enough just to keep the front wheel on the ground.
Dave - further testing this morning in very wet conditions. Brilliant. I haven’t taken them off so I could see how they fair in all weather. Woke up this morning to heavy rain, so now they have been tested in all but snow. Never felt unsure at any moment.
