I think the big surprise is MINI. A few years ago they were notorious for engines that blew up and fell in with their fellow UK brands of Jaguar and Land Rover. But since they are owned by BMW it makes sense that they would slot near them.

The other surprise is Mercedes. No surprise that most of the American brands on in the bottom half.

Mercedes definitely surprised me. Tesla was higher than I expected.

cant believe volvo is so low
.

lots of surprises at bottom of list . Land Rover …? hmm
I currently roll in the 14 ranked and can attest to being completely satisfied .
Wife looking at a new VW … i see its pretty low on list

cant believe volvo is so low
CR gives Volvo a below average score on reliability

It certainly isn’t taking cost of ownership into account.

The wife’s mini made it 18 years before she got a bmw. It’s still going too just a different owner. But I did do a reasonable amount of work to it over the years and I’m sure I’m in for it on the bmw as well. I like my Mazda just fine.

This. BMW aren’t that reliable. Would expect Honda or Toyota on top.

Tesla should be lower for poor reliability and poor build quality. Their status as a luxury brand, and early EV evangelism, probably skews the results. There are better EVs now.

Jeep is precisely where it should be. Dead last.

I agree with this yet we keep getting them 🤦🏻‍♂️

I feel that. Used to have a TJ. Miss it a little.

The bmw B58 engine is big winner. Fast when you want it and efficient when you need it. Reliability has been looking good as well.

They didn’t just look at reliability, but owner satisfaction and their road test scores. The current generation of BMWs have gotten much better in the reliability game where it seems like Toyota has a recall every other week. BMW had the highest road scores and customer satisfaction across the brand.

Tesla actually shows up further down the list than their scores would indicate. It also gets good road scores and customer satisfaction and its reliability is on par with Buick and Cadillac.

Is Jeep really that crappy?

Without doubt.

I drive a 2017 Mini, it is dramatically more reliable than the 2011 I had previously.

I am in the market for new vehicle. Going to be a pick-up (looking at late 2nd generation Tundras) as I have gear to shuttle around, and a camper to pull.

But for amusement, have been looking at other cars just to see. I have no interest in luxury car, but am shocked at 2018-2020 BMW and Mercedes models in my area with ~ 30-40,000 miles, and they are listed in the $30-40k price range. That seems surprisingly attainable compared to what I remember growing up as the high end luxury car.

What are you basing your reliability scores on? BMW currently employs one of the most reliable engines in existence in many of its vehicles.

Also, why should Tesla be lower? What reliability scores are you referencing? What’s the rate of “poor build quality” statistically that I’m sure you referencing?

Or…is everything in your post anecdotal?

I have been driving minis for the past 6 years. Knit issue so far is that chipmunks find the insulation on wires tasty.
