Conshohocken, PA

I just moved to Conshohocken, PA and was wondering if anyone lives or used to live in this area and where, besides the Schuykill river trail , there are good roads for tri training and long bike rides.

pretty much all the roads in your area are good for riding. i ride out there fairly frequently. unfortunately, i only know the routes as i ride them, and not by name. check out strava and mapmyride and you’ll see a lot of the more commonly ridden routes.

welcome! i spend a lot of time in conshy and while i do most routes on the trail, youll find that the area is really bike friendly. there are some great areas up in glenside and flourtown area, and taking 320 or 252 south into delco / chester county are nice rides if i recall. just be cautious on ridge and 23, ridge has crazy drivers, and 23 has a lot of hidden turns and speedracers.

From conshy I would take the trail towards valley forge and get off in Audubon or trooper and head to upper Montgomery county (towemencin, skippack, harleysville) for some nice riding. The roads in that area have painted markers for various organized rides. It might be a good idea to check out local bike clubs (scu, pbc) and join some of their weekly rides and metric centuries to learn some nice routes.

drive to Pottsdown, and ride North and West of there. miles and miles and miles of little used, exceptionally beautiful riding. .

Come on up to Trexlertown some time. There are tons of group rides that leave from the velodrome every day and some of the best roads for cyclists. Cyclists from all around the world come here to race and train every summer. Welcome to PA.

Pretty much what others have said. Take the trail to Valley Forge and ride west from there, toward French Creek State Park. Lots of beautiful country roads out that way. I lived west of Phoenixville for 20 years and I miss the riding in that area.

I work in Conshohocken, live in Plymouth Meeting. You can ride to the north, northwest, west, and southwest and find good routes. The Bicycle Club of Philadelphia has a bunch of cue sheets available: http://phillybikeclub.org/newbcp/rides/library

Welcome! I just started cycling last year, and I too use the schuylkill trail, starting down in Philly and riding out through Manayunk on to Umbro → Valley forge and beyond. But definitely looking to mix it up a bit, as I am going to be doing my first half on a notoriously hilly course in June (Quassy), and as I am sure you have discovered, the trail is pancake-esque.

Keep me posted on what you find!

The SRT isnt bad but it tends to get crowded on nice days so its hard and not really safe to ride “hammer down”. If you are riding it on off-times its a pretty good place to get some high-speed work done on the tri-bike without worrying about cars/traffic

As far as road riding, nothing beats Chester County for scenery (lots of farm land) and long stretches of low-traffic no-stop-lights riding.

Thanks . I appreciate the info. I’ll for sure be riding west from here then once i get some warmer bike gear. I just moved from Miami last week so I am not prepared for the colder days, although the weather hasnt been too bad.
