Computrainer vs Kurt Kinetic with TR

Have someone willing to sell me their new CT lab at 50% off. Was ready to purchase a new KK road and use with TR.

The CT is more than I need and as a Mac person the technology seems daunting and not the best use of my time to figure out.

I can ride outside year round, but limits are time, meaning during the week darkness is more a factor than climate .

The CT is really more than than I want to spend. The pause is getting a new one for that price. Is it worth it, too good to pass up?

I think an $800 CompuTrainer is worth more than any other trainer without a load generator. You don’t actually need to plug the CompuTrainer in to a PC - you can 100% control it from the handlebar mount controller. Plus if you decide you don’t like it, sell it, and use the profit for another trainer.

Now, if the CompuTrainer is going to be closer to $1000, I’d pass and get the Wahoo KICKR.

I use a MAC book pro. Use a Computrainer. Use Trainer Road. HEAVEN! No problem running this setup. When I wanted to use the Computrainer software (old version) I ran it in Parallels. With the Computrainer you can precisely control your resistance load. The Trainer Road will do it for you. Simply perform a FTP test (or manually enter it) and all the workouts base the resistance off of that number. Probably the most efficient bike training you could have.

Another option is Golden Cheetah. No monthly fee.

Takes erg files, handles CT, does all the analysis stuff, Sufferfest vids, uploads to TP, Strava…the list goes on. Free.

Go for it, once you have the computrainer you will be happy that you spend the extra couple of hundred $$
