Computrainer Lab USB Problem

Has anyyone ever had a problem with the USB chord for the computrainer lab? When I plug it into my computer the red and green light on the USB blink 3 times then nothing. My computrainer software says not connected. I’m trying to get a hold of their technical service there but I seem to be playing phone tag with them. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

The CT USB dongle is generally speaking a nightmare, there are more posts in their forums on the issue - than webpages on the rest of the Internet. Quite impressive actually.

That said, if you follow the steps outlined in the forum for the drivers, it typically solves the issue. 99% of the CT USB issues are driver related - and it’ll bite you at the worst possible time (when you go to save your workout, it crashes).

What OS are you on?

Also, does the USB connection work on any other computers (if handy)?

Thanks, I didn’t think to look there. Luckily it got me as I was beginning the work out so I didn’t lose any data, just had to watch a movie instead which isn’t the worst thing to ever happen.

The computer I use with it had Windows Vista, and it was maybe the 20th ride using the computrainer as it is very new.

I did plug it into a different computer to see what would happen and same thing.

Ok, I will check out their forum later and hope it is just a driver issue.

Trust me it is a driver issue. The dongle/hardware is not the problem. As previous poster mentioned there are numerous postings on ST and the Computrainer forum as well on this problem.
I went to the manufacturer web site and downloaded the driver , installed and got it going.
It is maddening for sure.

i had the same problmes. lights flashing but no communication. i am not nearly smart enough to understand drivers and all that stuff but i did engineer a workaround.

i have had my computrainer for a few years so had the ‘original’ pc inteface module (9 pin serial adaptor) connection to the CT. this worked very well. I then updated my computer and it did not have a serial port which is why i tried to use the FTDI - USB-to-Stereo Adapter (see racermateinc.com). This failed.

**my Solution on my new computer that runs windows vista. **

i took my original PC Interface Module (9-pin serial adapter) (see racermateinc.com) and then aquired a USB/serial adapter (something like this http://www.cablestogo.com/...d=101&sku=26886) and made the connection that way. it worked perfectly. (you might still have to run the comm port search).

simply. stereo cable from CT controller->9 pin serial port connector->serial port/USB adaptor->computer USB port.

like i say i am not techie in anyway and i have no idea if my solution is just dumb luck but it worked for me. give it a shot.

EDIT- i sent the usb/stereo adaptor back to recermate and got a full refund.

Did turn out to be a driver issue. If anyone has this problem in the future (like anyone would ever search this?) go to link below and click “Approved Windows FTDI Driver”, install and done. That is of course if you have Windows on your computer.
