Computrainer...help me pull the trigger

okay, i’m really tempted to get one of these. please tell me why or why not…the big why not being the $$, but i’m thinking of it as a yearend bonus…

I have had one for years, and love it!!! There is so much you can do. You can use it with just the controller. You can hook it to the computer and use the coaching s/w which has different options. You can use the courses. You can make a course. You can use a GPS to make a course. You can us NetAthlon courses, either by yourself, or ride on line with others.
You can take you CT to a place with others and use the multirider s/w and rider together.

Dave

dude, not two minutes ago we finished at 15 mile ride with warm-up and cool down for a total of 1:15:00 on the trainer.

The time flies by. You ride harder when you go hard then you would outside. It is the most effective cycling training aid I have seen. Our Computrainers have been in use almost every hour of the day today.

Tom, are the wires still on backwards? :o)

Dave

Yeah. We left them that way…

Two Thumbs up from So. Cal on my CT…I’ve had mine nearly 2 years and it is the best bike tool I have…so there! Go get one now!

the longer you wait, the more pissed you going to be that you did not buy one a long time ago! Well worth the money!

I’ve use on for 7 years. The variety of courses is great…If you want to ride the Hawaii Ironman, it’s on there, for ex., Additionally with the advent of Power training, I use my computrainer in a variety of workouts provided by my program and download it into Cycling Peaks which give you addit. info. on your workout such as ave watts, normalized power, TSS, CTL, ATL,…In other words your CT is a powermeter the same as a Powertap, Ergomo, etc. is…I ride it a ton in the winter, the only problem I’ve had in 7 years was my magnet wheel had to be replaced and they have a good system for sending it to the factory and back to you…worked well and in a timely manner…I recommend the Computrainer wholehearedly…

Now, I have talked to coaches who say they are a waste of money. They said to me one just needs to get out and ride. But, I do like toys!!
And I am not as tough as Martin is to bike in the rain and cold. :o(

Dave

I agree…not every toy is for everybody, but longterm success and improvement is based on discovering what works for YOU and the CT works for me, I enjoy riding it, if you don’t like riding a trainer at all, then maybe you should ride in any weather, but that’s not for ME…

PULL!!!

Best trainer out there - and it will entertain you.

You might also consider the Tacx Fortius Virtual Reality Trainer. Graphs everything and saves each ride so you ride against it later. Measures HR, cadence, watts, speed…even has a motor brake that simulates downhills (the brake unit speeds up the rear wheel). Its just like riding outside. There are virtual racing leagues also.

I’ve ridden against as many as 3 of my other rides from past days. You even get to draft off them. You can turn on the “collisions” mode. If you hit anything, fences, trees, rocks, even other riders, you go down. The rider flies off the bike, the bike goes down and you get to start up again as the other riders ride away from you. Now you have to chase!!!

of course i mean who wouldn’t love to ride in a foot of snow to train.

Sorry but at least here when it starts snowing there is no place to bike hard that i wouldn’t fear for my life from blowing snow going over the road.

Grant

Been using one for 4 years. I think it is the best purchase I have made. I use mine 2x/week and it really makes the time go by on the bike.
DO IT! DO IT!

thanks everyone! i’m excited about this.

what kind of a screen do you use?? and they don’t look mac compatible…anyone using with a mac?? could scrape together a pc here i think, but i don’t have one handy.

I just use a lap-top. I prefer apple, but I do not think they are compatible yet. I could be wrong though.

i think only pc…no mac.

I accredit every drop of my success last season to religiously riding the computrainer 3x a week all of last winter.
I had the fastest bike and run split in my AG at eagleman and qualified for Hawaii.

Man, how did you keep the focus? I know it can be great, but I just have yet to find the right things to use with it to really get me to dig deep.

Dave

Get it. I couldn’t imagine not having one now that I have one. Great training/racing tool that really improves your riding.
