has anyone bought the wireless computrainer heartmonitor? i have a polar heart rate monitor but i like being able to view my hr on the computrainer and compare when i race against myself…
Bought it and can’t get it to work any better than intermittently. I tried all the obvious solutions like making sure the electrodes are wet, proximity to the reciever, reciever placement, etc.
And yes, I did use the non-coded transmitter.
They only work with NON-coded transmitters (T31).
I also bought the official “from-computrainer” wireless transmitter. I found it to work intermittently and finally went back to wearing my Polar and just looking at the wristwatch receiver.

Have used the wireless CT heart rate monitor for a couple yrs now. Receiver has been trouble-free and wireless is a lot more convenient then clamping some ear-ring on and letting the cable drape across your face. The xmitter that CT sells ain’t so hot tho. I’ve had to replace it’s battery a lot. I think that the cause is that moisture gets in it. But I’ve a number of other brands of heart rate xmitters and so far, every single non-coded xmitter happily works with the CT.
they have been out of stock for almost 6 months… plus what everybody already said about the whole coded non coded transmitter just chapps my ass…

ME:Next question same subject: When are you guys going to update the tech in the receiver to work with coded transmitters? The non-coded ones are a dieing breed that don’t work with MOST of the higher end polars like all of the S-series. So dumping HRM data into Polar’s software after a long CT ride just got more difficult.
It seems that after spending over 1K on a piece of equipment I find myself taking a technological steps backwards

If it makes you feel any better I used your email to augment my point at last nights sales meeting. Our product is amazingly advanced, but it’s hard to convince the engineers that we need to update the mundane items like the pc connection, but I feel we made good progress yesterday, and that we will see this change emerge soon.
So much for the marketplace dictating what is prodcued
I’ve talked to this same guy a couple on both related and unrelated issues and seems very proactive. the engineers he speaks of I can’t say anythign similar about.
I half ready to try buying a polar PC interface board directly from Polar’s OEM division and soldering a stero cable connection onto it. Polar already has the next generation boards that work with coded and non-coded so I don’t what the hell CT is waiting for…

sure blame the engineers - this is squarely a problem with CT’s management. We should all get together and petition CT and tell them we want Polar coded transmitters and USB.
I totally agree.
I’m not so much bothered by the serial connection as I am about the whole non-coded polar bit. That technology is almost as old as teh serial connection, and is probably being phased out faster. Most of the high end Polars are all coded straps.

How can I tell if my strap is coded or non-coded? I have several of these units and I don’t know which is which. What about the strap that came with a Timex body link system?
For Polar the non-coded model strap is the T-31 the coded is the T-61. the model is usually right on the front.
Timex body link - that’s a whole other ball o wax. I’ve only even used Polars But given how new the timex is and that CT is still only dealing with non-coded signals (vintage what 1990-4??) I sure Timex isn’t even on the list.

how do you get the non-coded polar strap to work with computrainer? I have worn mine before with my watch on but nothing happens with my HR on computrainer. Do I need to change a setting or something?
you need the polar interface (that is currently out-of-stock) sold on CT’s website. It connects to the same plug as the earclip.
thats all I can tell you cause the friggin thing has been out of stock since I got my CT.
I’m getting close the point of calling Polar’s OEM division and seeing if I can order the circuit board directly from them. even if I have to build the case myself…
I guess I"m one of the lucky ones who got one before they ran out of stock. I bought a nashbar cheapo non-coded strap and it works well.
It does go in and out every now and then, as others have stated. But mine works 90% of the time. Sure beats the ear clip. That gives me a headache.
