Computer with cadence?

Some feedback on what is good and what isn’t? Which one do you use?

G

I use a Polar S725i and have good luck with it. I like the wireless cadence & speed. Another good computer – Vetta V100.

Shimano FlightDeck OR Campy ErgoBrain are also nice, but neither works with bar-ends, however.

I was thinking about the polar sc200 with cadence. not much of a heart rate person, but compared to others that dont offer HR, for 20 to 30 dollars more I can get the HR with it!!!

Thanks

G

Yeah, I tried the Polar. Found the cadence to be useless. I wear my watch on my wrist, which is fine for the speedo, but too far for the cadence.

Cateye Astrale 8 is cheap and has been reliable for me. But it has wires.

you can change the “jumpers” inside the wireless pieces of Polars to increase the range. it kills batteries fairly quickly but all your friends will know what cadence you have

??? Jumpers? I am all about dinking with stuff. Is there a website that shows you how to do this or is it in the actual manual?

Edit: Look what Google turned up…

wow, i thought i knew something special from all that TS-SBI electronics training in the military  that is it.

Cateye Astrale 8 here as well. I like the cadene feature. Another number to keep you in range on the trainer on rainy days.

Another Cateye Astrale 8 user. I have it on 3 bikes, because it is such a good value. It does all the necessary features including cadence (most important to me).

I like the Astrale 8 too but I have recently bought a Trek Incite 11i

The huge speed display is really nice.

Wires are a bit ugly, but it is reliable and a great value
.

I’ll cast my vote for the Astrale. I found mine for something like 25 bucks, and it works beautifully.

One word of caution: secure the wires well (and frequently) to the chainstay. I had one that I didn’t secure well enough and my rear tire ate right through it. Lesson learned.

I have a Mavic Wintech. Pros are the big display, it’s wireless, and it shows speed, cadence, average speed, elapsed time, trip distance, total distance, time of day. And the wireless has been accurate and generally reliable. One drawback, though, is that you can’t display certain combinations of information at the same time. For instance, you have to ‘toggle’ between speed and elapsed time - can’t have them display at the same time. I’m also finding it to be a bit unreliable when it gets wet: it conked out on me once during a driving rainstorm earlier this summer, and also went out on me at about mile 16 of a half-IM last week. Wasn’t raining, though it was very humid and I was dripping on it. Apparently that was enough to do it in.

Just got the new wireless Cateye with cadence for 100.00 bucks. I think tri-zone has it. Works great and it is so nice not to have a bunch of wires wrapped around everything.

One note though. On my bike I had one spot and only one spot to put the cadence sensor on the crank. Otherwise there wasn’t enough clearance.

I’ve got the same one and really like the screen; speed, cadence, elapsed time and distance all shown at once, no button pushing. I did buy a mavic magnet for its lower profile due to the tight squeeze.

I use a Polar S710i w/wireless speed and cadence on my tri bike. I have the jumpers set to ‘high’ and don’t have very many problems with dropouts.

I have a Shimano FliteDeck on my road bike (wired). Pretty nice. I like the gear display and the buttons on the hoods.

I used to run an Avocet 45tt on my tri bike. Wired speed and cadence. Speed is run off rear wheel. Good for trainers, but extra wires.
