Really why would you need compression socks for a sprint or even before the sprint? Guy with compression socks, newtons, p3 with 808/zipp disc. Maybe he should have trained as much since I blew by him with a metal rig.
EDIT: I am commenting on the idea in our society of more is better, not on one person in particular as I saw many. Yes a sprint is hard, and after it compression socks do help. Yes I saw a women with one on, she probably had a injury which is perfectly fine. For those people that this has hit a nerve, that should say something by itself. What it say is up to you. Just because you can afford a P3 or like bike doesnt mean you should ride it with zero drop. It doesnt fit you then. We all know that to get the benifits of a 80-90 mm wheel you need to be going x mph. I am not that fast with a 1:03 40k, so if Im going by you with my 50mm front wheel and a wheel cover you could benefit from something not so steap. This is a comment on what propaganda we are being bombarded with. Just because pro athletes wear it and are fast doesnt mean its meant for us. I didnt mean to “make fun” of you, just comment on how gulliable we all are, since at one time or another we all have done this sort of thing.
FYI-I wear compression socks after hard workouts and races too.
Thank you! I get a kick out of seeing compression socks/calf sleeves before, during, or after a sprint race… If you need that much help recovering after a sprint, I’ve got one thing to say to you, HTFU.
And I feel the same way, it was nice this past weekend on a 0.5mi/27.5mi/7mi race to blow past people who had fancy carbon bikes, race wheels, and pointy speed helmets… I ride an aluminum bike that I’m pretty sure it too small for me!
For those of you who are diehard compression socks/calf sleeve wearers in sprints, more power to you… I’ll continue to make fun of you as a I pass you…
Whether you need them for a sprint can be argued as much as whether you need them at all…but I will say that I am often more sore after a sprint than any other kind of race. I did a race two weeks ago and I was sore for two days after that sprint. Did an olympic distance yesterday and not nearly as sore as I was from the sprint. I think most people red line a sprint the whole way and thus you probably are beating your body up pretty good at that distance and time.
You are a dumbass. You can make fun of people when you pass them, but what about all the people you don’t catch. I have worn calf sleeves in the past due to injury. I have passed a lot of people who were wearing and riding all kinds of equipment. I have never laughed at anyone because they are out there doing their best. I can guarantee that you wouldn’t pass me, but if anyone ever laughed when they passed me they would get a fist in the mouth. Sounds like you are just a jealous tool who can’t afford top end equipment and have to point it out on the rare occasion when they pass anyone.
Maybe he was doing more than just a sprint during the last few days. It’s possible that he rode 100 miles the day before and was training through the race.

“A fist in the mouth” for some tri dork laughing at you? You probably beat your wife too.

Maybe he has a perfectly good reason for wearing it before the race. Like, you know, a medical reason? Not everyone is God’s gift to health and triathlon speed like you. Coincidentally, one of the people I know in my age group at the sprint on Saturday was wearing a compression sleeve on one leg before the race. I asked him about it, and he said that standing around for hours before the race causes his leg to swell, so he wears that.
Both my road bike and my triathlon bike are “metal rigs.” One of them happens to be titanium, so what’s your point?
Yeah, that is a good correlation. I would never hit or hurt my wife. The day I wake up thinking I am better than anyone else for any reason whatsoever, I hope someone is there to put me in my place. To laugh at someone else or to belittle someone who is out there giving their all is the attitude of a very weak human being.

People with expensive equipment don’t buy it to be faster than you, they buy it to be faster than they could be without it.
That logic is commonly repeated, but repetition doesn’t remove the flaws behind it.
Unfortunately, its quite common in the tri community to diminish other peoples achievements, efforts or actions so that other people can feel better about their own.
Getting to the starting line healthy, giving a race 100% effort and battling back to try again just isn’t enough for some people. They have to be worried about what other people wear, what they ride or how they ride, etc. It’s amusing to me, yet pathetic at the same time.

Wow, a fist to the mouth? You’re a real class act…
I wasn’t aware that calf sleeves or compression socks were top end equipment… And who says I need top end equipment anyway?
Sounds like you’re the jealous one pal–you probably have all the top end equipment and it still doesn’t make a difference… .

Gotta love cyber bullies. “I guarantee you would never pass me”, “Fist in the mouth”, “Jealous tool”.
And the OP is the dumbass? Maybe so, but you have just shown your ass and more to the world.

There is no reason to make fun of anyone at the races no matter what the reason (fast, slow, fat, skinny, etc). In my experience everyone who claims to be an amazing triathlete is usually near the bottom and has to talk themselves up to make them feel good. I train with some of the most elite athletes in my area (Kona level) and never once have I heard them ever poke fun at someone slower (which we almost all are) or talk about how fast they are. They let the times do the talking, not their mouth.
And… For many people sprints is just that… a sprint. And I don’t know if you have trained before, but sprinting a mile will take much more out of your legs then jogging 3. So it’s very common to be more sore after shorter distances if you are treating it as a sprint. I wear compression gear after every race and training session. Do I need to?? probably not, but if it can speed up my recovery (which I found it has) why not? because they don’t look cool? Who gives a sh*t.
You need to grow up and until you finish in the top 10 at an ironman i’d keep my mouth shut about how “great” you are… Because remember… there will ALWAYS been someone faster…
