I’m looking to get an idea of what members think about compression garment “etiquette” - that is, excluding racing, what’s acceptable to wear and what is not in terms of decency and style for workouts. This is an honest question, and it stems from looking at the Zoot CompressRx advertisements showing athletes running in nothing but compression garments head-to-toe (tops, bottoms - both long and short) with nothing over top. Aside from races, and occasionally the people I’ve noticed training (running and cycling) in trisuits, I’ve never actually seen anyone run in compression garments by themselves.
I’d like to be better informed about a few things: (1) Does anyone here do this and, if not, is this within the acceptable unspoken guidelines of clothing oneself for triathlon training or would this be considered poor taste? (2) If I were to do it, would I get strange looks and requests to go home and put shorts on? (3) Would I look too much like a space cowboy star-trek wannabe - i.e. uninformed nooby-looking guy who gets laughed at by the experienced (and accomplished) runners who see me?
So I guess the bottom line is: yes or no to looking like the Zoot CompressRx ads when training? And if NO, in the warm months, what do people here wear over compression garments (short sleeve top and shorts) to make their ownership of these pieces worthwhile? As an addendum: I currently own these, yet feel that unless I wear them alone, I’m merely adding bulk and insulation - not something that helps out on longer runs. Thanks ahead of time for the input.
