Comparables for Brooks Beast

I have been wearing the brooks beast for quite a while, but i am tiring of paying $130 for running shoes. What is a similar shoe that is in a lower price bracket? Are there any good running shoes that a sub $80

Beast is kind of in a category by itself, but you might try the Brooks Addiction (MSRP $100) which is the Beast’s little brother. It’s the same category of shoe (motion control) with less bells and whistles. There are some other motion control shoes on the market you could try, but the price on those is going to be in the Beast range (e.g., Mizuno Wave Alchemy or Wave Renegade).

aloys,

I’m not saying this is gospel or right or necessary but just for a different perspective I think you should consider reading McDougal’s Born to Run. Even if you we’re into running it’s a good read because a) it’s a good story and b) it’s written well. The fact that you’re a runner and maybe a runner who “issues” you might have a new view on all things run related. That book can be a real game changer.

x2 for the addiction. basically the same platform of shoe but with out the gel insole. i work at a running store and have found the support of the addiction is the same as the beast just not all the “extras”. almost all the time when someone needs a motion control shoe i start with the addiction. if they can save 40bucks and get the same support its always good. while the mizuno has a motion control shoe i think this years alchemy is not as great as last years but you should go somewhere and try them on. a few other options are the NB1011 and maybe even the asics foundation. the last isnt as straight cut as the beast and addiction but its a pretty stable shoe. hope this helps and feel free to PM me with any more questions. In the whole triathlon scheme of things running shoes is about the only thing I can hold my own in. Good luck
