I am going to be coming up to Cincinnati tomorrow and staying thru Thursday to visit family. We are staying out by a water park called The Beach by Kings Island. I was hoping to get some run miles in and am looking for any suggestions that anyone has where would be some good places to run. We are staying at the Baymont Hotel in Mason City if this is any help. Thanks in advance for yall’s help…
hey Craig, lots of people here will be able to help you out. first off, the loveland trail isn’t that far away. the hotel can help you get there by showing the way–endless miles, seriously, and no traffic. it’s flat, and you can get some good miles in for sure. the side of the pavement has grass and dirt, plus there are mile markers. if you have a car, tri health pavilion is about 10 miles down, not even maybe, straight down 71 south. there is a really nice pool, weight room, treads, bikes, spin classes, anything you could want. you can go one day for 12 bucks. for an adventure of sorts, you could run the running course of the Ceasar’s Creek Tri and the Great Buckeye Challenge. check out www.hfpracing.com if you’re interested and find those races to see the maps. it’s good stuff.
PM me if you want additional information…there might be some folks here who meet up to run, not sure.
Thanks for the info. If you know of any groups that run in the mornings or evenings from here it would be nice to meet some of you guys. Thanks again for the info.
yeah check in with barrio, marisol, and a few others. if i do a tri this summer I’ll be winging the run, no lie. i’m sick of the knee pain, so i pretty much just bike and weight train, and slowly getting back to swimming.
www.runningspot.com this place is Roncker’s Running Spot. It’s the mecca of running for the area. I think groups run out of there all the time–I always loved everybody I met from there…they are the best!
Hey, speaking of German, try to get to the hoffbrau haus (in Newport) if you can…it’s so damn GOOD!!!
Thanks again. What is the hoffbrau haus? If you can email barrio and marisol for me my email address is tazrun@juno.com that would be great. Thanks again…
hey I just got done with a 3 1/2hr ride my brain is quite kicking on all cylinders. Thanks for putting the smack on me… BTW I will look this up and hold you to it being good!!!
craig… I don’t know where to run from kingd island area… i can make a few phone calls. i am sure loveland has a group run, i will look into it. need some riding or swimming? some partying? I am leaving wed to go to montreal…
Damn…small world. My sons are in Mason right now, visiting gramma and cousins. They go every summer. Gramma lives off of one of the fairways of the Nichlaus golf course. I used to run the golf course in early hours or right before dark, looooove golf course running. They were building The Beach about the time I moved back from the Midwest to Kona. When I would run or ride my tri bike (in the 80’s) through Mason, and the neighboring towns, I would get lots of weird looks. Not many fitness fanatics in that area back then. With all of the St’ers that live in the Queen City, I’m almost sad that I’m not there or in Indy anymore. ALMOST. I wish had had more tri friends when I was there.
i would e-mail that guy, the running spot east is not far from there… see, mason is like all families, I live in the yuppie neighboorhood, so i don’t know that area well. the bike train is great and really close by. do you want info on how to get to the trail?
Thanks for the info. I am going to try and run the loveland trail. Sorry you are going to be out. Would like to meet some fellow ST’Rs. If you are free one night before you go I will be up there with my whole family but we will be going out to dinner. Kittycat told me to look up the Haufer Haus (sp?) to get some good beer so will try and do that one night. Thanks again…
hoffebrauhaus is in newport,KY… That’s quite a ways down but it’s just like the one in germany. Fun,fun, walk from the baseball field if you go to a reds game. I’ll be around mon and tues, cycling on tuesday if you are up for that. may go swim too
Craig - there is a time trial Tues eve, big group ride Wed eve that I usually do as a brick as well with beer after. PM if interested. I have an extra bike/shoes if you fit.
Extra bike is a 55cm Litespeed Vortex. Shoes are 42 - but you can bring them. Maybe run the trail wed eve, then meet a few for our brick, then beer/snacks!
I am sorry I missed your post. I would have loved to have done that. Thanks for the invite it means alot. Hopefully we will meet up at some point. Thanks again… BTW the kids had a great time at the waterpark, Muesem and zoo. Thanks again…
Within two years I predict that 95% of Slowtwitchers will actually live in Cincinnati. Slowman and Bikesport Michigan will have to relocate here to be close to the Slowtwitch center of gravity.
