I had inguinal hernia surgery on December 4th 3013. It’s now been 6 weeks. It was an indirect and direct hernia on my left side with a 4x6 mesh implant. This past weekend I started having stabbing pain in this same area. Like the kind where you are doubled over and the breath taken out of you. It is aching a bit, but not as bad as when I start walking and it will come out of no where. Not sure what is going on here. I was feeling so good and now I feel like I’m right back where I was before with all the pain. Anyone else experience this? I just want to be back to normal again. Can’t even think of running now with the god awful pain. Will call dr tomorrow, but I just wanted to know if people had this same experience?
Thx
I had the same surgery and mesh implant back in 2005. I recovered fairly quickly from it and started running at about 6 weeks. I will say this, I’ve had pain in the hernia region on and off since the surgery. Before Ironman FL this year, it got bad enough to where I was convinced I’d ripped the mesh or something. I decided to get through the race and have another operation after.
I went to the Dr. and he said there was no hernia, rather, suspected either nerve damage or some ligament issues. He said often times athletes have pain down there and incorrectly assume it is due to a hernia. I have and MRI next week so hopefully I will know more then.
I had hernia surgery and had some sharp pain several weeks later. Doc said it was scar tissue ripping, hurt like hell but cleared up in a few days.
Same surgery for me in 2008. Thought I had exotic problems. In the end was just a weak core that needed strengthening combined with some massage to encourage the reduction of scar tissue and stretching to keep the area from tightening up. Took a while - probably a year before I was 100%. You will be too I bet. Just give the area some attention.
