1 less year when you admit it early on. Didn’t know that.

Sad. May he be at peace with his decision.
Long shadow over Mikal and his current and former athletes and the whole Norwegian method
.
Was this when he was in Girona training with Mikal?
He just admitted it in a post in Instagram
.
Damn. I’ve been following the Road to PTO European Open on the How They Train podcast and he was suddenly replaced by Aaron Royale and Tom Bishop due to an unspecified injury. But I guess this is the reason why. The first episode of that series was released on Feb. 23 which was when he got the positive test. From what I recall he was at altitude in Europe at that time. I wonder what the PTO will do to his US Open victory last year.
Part of the 1 year reduction of his ban should include being completely honest about where he got it, if his coach knew, and who else was doing it.
I doubt the PTO can scrape back the money he won last summer, but they should try.
Just read his Instagram post. Nice attempt to own it, but I remember him living it up for quite a while in some place snowy and appeared to be having a grand ole time at the tail end of last year. Didn’t seem like a broken athlete in need of an illegal boost. I’m shocked. Lots of questions about other folks are going to come up now. Lots.
I’m also interested, if somebody can track it back to Colin’s training week description (“Road to the PTO European Open” under How They Train channel). It’d be of value to map the date to: a) his training week & potential training partners, b) the Colin/Fred/Mika complaining about very little testing being done, c) Colin’s recent back injury. I don’t want to imply anything that cannot be proven, but just curious to ‘see’ the bigger picture.
On another note: how does it work with past wins in the triathlon world? are some wins / top places cancelled like it’s normally done in cycling?

I agree on the full disclosure. If he is to be believed he didn’t start using until November so PTO Dallas was clean.

For anyone that’s curious
Nice attempt to own it,
Hmm…I’m having a hard time reconciling winning IM Tremblant in August, winning the U.S. PTO in September with a $100,000 check, and then suddenly feeling “lost, sick and injured” a couple months later in November, and taking EPO for the first time.
Maybe possible. I don’t pretend to know what kinds of pressures elite athletes go through. But it’s tough to feel that much sympathy since he steamrolled the second half of 2022. If I were a clean elite athlete who’d struggled through anonymous10th place finishes all 2022 I’d be giving the finger at that Instagram post.

Lol. Dallas was not clean.

I wouldn’t take a single thing he says at face value until proven otherwise

Wow. EPO should be lifetime ban. Period. He now gets 3 years to EPO away and train, and then come back to racing in Year 4 off of it, still living the benefits of it.
Completely sucks . . . and he cheating out Magnus and Sam at Dallas. Ugh.
now can see why lionel parted ways with him

I hate to agree with you but this is true. Perception many times equals reality. Whether they like it or not I think this brings Mikal, Iden and Kristian under scrutiny. They need to be 150% transparent going forward or there will always be doubts about the legality of the “Norwegian Method”. Ouch, could this be the beginning of a huge doping scandal in our sport? I hope not.
Lol. Dallas was not clean.
It’d be so refreshing to get one doper to just crack and say, “YOU’RE DAMN RIGHT I WAS ON EPO,” and then launch into a whole A Few Good Men speech about what it’s really like to be an elite triathlete having to face Blu, et al, and us little age groupers have no idea, with our privilege of being able to crawl back under our warm blankets and skip that AM training session whenever we want.
For an athlete the 3 years ban is practically a career-end. Especially in his prime. He states it himself in the post, that he’s out. He wouldn’t have sponsors, he wouldn’t have any races, pro training partners wouldn’t want to associate themselves with him. That time will be very hard for him, I don’t envy him.
He probably admitted to make the whole process peaceful, and not to shorten the period from 4 to 3 years.
