The only other detail I’ve gotten from USAT is there might be some kind of wetsuit rental program because the water temperature will maybe reach 60 degrees. I’ve sent out serval emails for more info, but haven’t heard back.
ps. The lake we will be swimming in was the site of a massive toxic spill in the late 80s.
Wow, this is exciting! Anyone know of any apecial plane ticket details or anything for collegiate athletes without an already existing club? I would like to bring a group of guys\gals, but it would be very expensive to get there, and driving would be a longgggg drive from wisconsin.
Anybody know the rules for Collegiate Nat’s? Can grad-school students compete or December graduates?
i believe the age limit is 28yrs old and you can compete up to 6 months after graduation although check that last fact just in case.
Yup, grad school students can compete.
I don’t know of any plane ticket deals. Our club is hoping that USAT comes up with some free bike vouchers or something. Collegiate Nationals was in AZ the past two years; it was supposed to be farther east this year (it was originally scheduled for New Orleans… scratch that one). Now it is even further west… which sucks for us east/mideast schools. All I can say is reserve your tickets early. We have several athletes who can’t go this year simply due to the cost.
Hey Dave, the rules change every year but generally follow the same format - any undergraduate or graduate student can compete as long as they are taking enough credits, or if they graduated no more than six months prior. I believe it is 12 credits for undergrad and 6 for grad. We pretty much have to wait until the rules are set out by the race director or USAT or whoever does that. In my experience the rules can change often and without notice.
They got rid of the 28 year age limit a few years ago.
I really shouldn’t be allowed to race, considering I graduated college in 2002, and Im graduating law school in 3 days. But, if the rules say Im ok…
Im thinking it’d be a good race to do.
I’ve never been able to race nationals because it is always the weekend before, or in the middle of my law school finals.
Army and Navy have always pushed for an undergrad only race, or at least seperately scored divisions - undergrad and graduate. This would give them a considerable advantage since all of their athletes are undergrad.
I can just see you and qcassidy, hand in hand, crossing the finish line well ahead of the field
