Cold water swim = pneumonia?

Just got back from dr. and got diagnosed as having pneumonia. I was fine Monday, ran 4 miles and then swam an hour in cold pool (~73). Got out and was still chilled, came home and proceeded to get real sick ever since. Once again, a little too much “bullet-proof” mentality…

a pneumonia is basically a lung infection. cold water can theoretically lower your body’s immune system.

it’s not so much the bullet-proof mentality as much as you did not friggin swim hard enough to be warm!

Na, if you were exposed to the nasty flu going around, sounds like you caught it. But, taking out time to rest
seems like the smart thing to do. I did not even try to exercise for a week, and should have waited longer.

FYI, last time it was that cold in the pool, I put on a wetsuit!

i went the dr. thinking flu / influenza. when i gave him the story about swimming, getting cold, etc. he did a couple of chest xrays to see whether it flu or pneumonia…

i’ve got a pair of speedtubes that i guess i’ll wear till summer. that’ll have to help some…

I hope you are not paying to swim at that temp.

Recover quickly.
