I sit here, depressed, nursing a sore PF on a sunny Saturday morning. The 10 mile run I was looking forward to will not happen today. I will save further whining for the Cry like a B*#% thread.
The thing is, this came out of nowhere. Just bam! I ran a smooth 5.5 yesterday, felt fine. My PF flared up as the day progressed. Was throbbing last night, and pretty sore this am.
I ran a 15 min brick the day before, and my feet were quite numb (cold) off the bike. I was on the bike for 2 hrs in 40F temps and was a bit underdressed. Any thoughts on whether this could be the source of the aggravation? If so, why the 24 hour delay in symptoms?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Enjoy your training this weekend.

Stretch stretch stretch. The cold feet probably made something else compensate. I feel your pain! 3 weeks ago my calf decided to pull on my Achilles and I didnt pay enough proper attention to it and so I ended up taking the shortcut at Boston Monday… Stretch and strengthen !
Given that I have a pretty large collection of running injuries, I’ve found that often running injuries aren’t due to the single run in which it happened, but an increased training load from the prior few weeks.
being stiff and cold would certainly be a contributing factor. Possibly due to cold muscles, but as suggested, it may have changed your form enough to cause additional stress on the PF.
Good luck. I was able to get through my recent PF flair-up enough to BQ a marathon a month later, and it’s nearly fully healed after 4 months. Each person is different. Lot’s of rolling and stretching. I found heat was better for its healing than cold. The night boot helped too. It’s your body and you know best how it feels- I suggest as much active recovery as possible. i.e. light running in really supportive shoes might be better for it than not running at all.
Can you bend over and touch your toes? How tight are your calves?
I’m currently fighting a similar issue (PF + cold/burning/tingling feet) which my PT believes to be related to my insanely elevated dural tension. Symptoms came on suddenly after a run with excessively tight calves. I felt it right after the run, but REALLY felt it the next morning, and then a week later when I pissed it off again climbing stairs. I’ve had the issue for decades (long before I started running), but it only recently decided to cause issues.
