Cocnut water

Lately I’ve been hearing some amazing claims regarding coconut water and it’s “sports drink” like properties.

Anyone have any data/experience/anecdotes?

I thought it had a rather significant laxative affect. That may help your “running”…

Remember the scene with Tom Hanks in “Castaway”? He survived on coconuts and suffered some adverse digestive results.

That said, I seem to recall a recent book my wife was reading that did tout the benefits of coconut milk among other more unusual libations. Can’t regal the name of the book. A thirty year old looking fellow dressed in white claiming to be 79 was the author and was pictured on the cover.

Damn that stroke… can’t seem to remember names anymore.

Take it all the time on vacation… Leave a coconut in the fridge until ready then just hack off the top, dump in a ton of rum, maybe a little pineapple juice for fun and woohoo it is definitively a performance enhancer, makes me talk louder and it becomes really easy to do repeats of what I just said! Plus I really feel like I could do anything MUCH better than before drinking the coconut milk.

A friend made this mistake a few weeks ago. He heard it was better than Gatorade at replacing electrolytes and then discovered the laxative effect, which I told him about after he chugged it. Oops, my bad. It was shocking how quickly it moved through his system which makes me wonder how much you would need to drink to stave off dehydration but also get those great electrolyte benefits.

Some sport drinks, like coconut juice, give me the “Squirtells”.

What, no smart ass comments on the thread title? It made me chuckle a little in a Beavis and Butthead kind of way

I don’t think the water has a laxative effect. I just drank a lot of it right from the shell in Belize after my runs there and it had no negative consequences for me. I think it is a great sports drink. Lower in calories than other sports drinks and has everything else you need. If there is an asian grocery store near you, you can get it cheap, or else they have it at Whole Foods or from Amazon.

Sigh, I realized my mistake too late…plus I couldn’t be bothered to edit it.

Wonder how many people read it expecting something else…

It’s also sterile…helpful for cleaning out those machete wounds.

I’ve also heard that you can run it IV as well, because it’s similar to blood plasma but I’m not gonna test that one out.

I’ve heard if you drink lots of Pineapple juice that your cocnut water tastes like pineapples. Ladies love it.
