The reality is that natural gas is killing coal, not regulations. It also doesn’t help that renewables will continue to get cheaper due to technological improvement and economy of scale. Eventually that separation is going to be rather significant.

Good to see, but not what I expected. I did expect the US share to continue to decrease, actually hoped so, and agreed with Obama on the topic, but I thought Trump was going to work on allowing and opening more foreign markets where there is still demand. Better that coal stay in the ground IMO.
That is why trump pushed the TVA to keep a coal plant open, even though it was not economical.

Ummmm, strip mining probably has the lowest environmental impact/foot print of all surface operations. Mountain top removal, major impact. I have taken my family to a couple “strip mines” that I worked at. They could not identify any previously mined areas within 5 years of reclamation.
At another mine we actually restored prairie that disappeared with European settlement. Lets agree blanket statements are not the best way to make a point.

They just don’t have anything else to make electricity, but they are making huge investments to get off that horse. They don’t have a huge natural gas supply like the US.

It appears they are making significant investments in both coal and renewables. Renewables alone (at the moment) do not have the ability to keep up with their increasing power demands, hence the approvals for more coal mining capacity.
