Hi all,
I’m new to the coaching side of triathlon and I’m wondering what are the best options for online coaching platforms. The coaches I have worked with as an athlete used phone calls and spreadsheets to communicate about workouts and changes in schedule. That worked well for me since I meticulously keep a paper training journal. Now that I’m starting to coach triathletes and runners, I know that some of them will want to use an online coaching platform, but I don’t have any experience with any of them as an athlete or coach. I have heard about Training Peaks and Training Tilt and I have started to look into those two options. Does anyone have recommendations with pros and cons?
Thanks,
Jim Rowe
Hello Jim,
there are several coaching platforms, such as TodaysPlan, TrainingTilt but really superior platform in my experience is TrainingPeaks from both business and athlete management standpoints. It has great analytics tools and also enables you to generate extra revenue through their training plans store (if you have any training plans for sale). If you become certified coach, you’ll be also able to use their coach matching service. On top of this, TrainingPeaks enables you to really leverage their software and automate repetitive tasks, such as adjusting training zones and workouts to each athlete.
Btw, I am Jakub and head coach at ProCyclingCoaching. Let me know if you have any other questions, happy to share some tips. I have been coaching for a few years now. Hope my answer helped a bit.
Hey! Cam here, to be honest you can’t really go wrong with TrainingPeaks because the athletes will already have accounts and they already know how it all works. This is changing a bit now though because there are a lot more platforms available so even though TrainingPeaks is the OG it’s not the default for everyone now.
I’m actually the developer of Training Tilt that Jakub mentioned, we are a bit different to TrainingPeaks because we are a coaching business only platform in terms of who we sell to so athletes can’t move between different coaching business on our platform as the coach is in full control of athlete accounts, the branding and the data.
So if you are just getting into coaching and want a fast and easy way to get started then TrainingPeaks I think is still the go to platform that you can rely on. If you want to build a brand with a longer term growth strategy though Training Tilt could be worth looking at.
