Coaching for $100 per month

What type of coaching can I expect for about $100 a month? By type, I mean, what would be included? Is $100 a month going to be enough for a personal style plan with coaching contact once a week or so through email? I’ve found, on my own, several options for $200 a month or so, but at the moment $100 is about as much as I can afford. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You can find coaching for about $100 per month that includes a structured workout plan, and frequent communication with a coach. The program I use costs either $19 or $29 per week of training (depending on if you are training for a goal race, or just maintaining fitness). The workouts are automatically generated for each week, and are based on specific heart rate ranges. You can communicate with the coaches via email at any time, and their response rate is very consistently within 24 hours. Feel free to PM me with any questions.

Training Bible Coaching is an option with their AMP plan. http://www.trainingbible.com/Services/TBC-AMP/

Just something I came across.

I figure out prices with my athletes individually based on a number of factors. During that process I take into consideration an athlete’s financial circumstances and do everything I can to arrange something that works for both of us. I try to be really fair in the pricing. Honestly, I didn’t start out intending to run things that way. I went into coaching familiar with the similar model of, “my services are $”, but I’ve found there are a bunch of athletes looking for quality coaching at a lower price point. I do my best to provide that - true one-on-one coaching with unlimited communication, etc. at a more reasonable rate.

If you’re interested, shoot me a message and I can tell you more and send you a few references if you want to hear directly from my current athletes themselves.

For $100 I would expect at least a coach to be able to generate your workouts for two weeks at a time or so, based on your personal needs/schedule/paces/power/etc. Obviously with a plan and goal race in mind. I wouldn’t however, expect your coach to do much in the way of analyzing your power files beyond a cursory glance. I would also expect a reasonable amount of email/text/phone communication as long as it isn’t excessive.

In other words $100/month should get you a reasonably personalized plan with communication, but not too much in-depth analysis.

You can expect customized plans and communication that fits with your schedule

Mike Plumb from Tripower.org will give you a custom plan for $85 a month. You tell him what you are planning to do and he’ll give you all of your workouts.

I was with him for 4 years, I got much faster and learned a lot. Each week I would send him the data files from the workouts I did so he could track my progress.

I think you’ll be able to find a new coaching getting started or more of a training plan type coach.

And either of those might be just what you need.

Someone else mentioned Mike Plumb, I think Rick Niles is still less than $100 per month. He was one of the first triathlon coaches out there, using fax machines. www.ranfit.com I’ve used him and liked him.

+1 on Cooch Mike (Plumb). Fits your budget, personalized weekly workout, heckuva guy.

Another plug for Mike Plumb at Tripower Multipsort. He will give you a custom plan with monitoring and communication for $85 a month. In my first year with Mike as my coach (at age 50), I set PR’s in 5k, 10k, 1/2 marathon, marathon (at Boston), 1/2 Ironman, and completed my first Ironman, finishing 21st out of over 200 in my age group.

Another vote for Mike Plumb. Been with him basically since 2008.

He was one of the first triathlon coaches out there, using fax machines.

Now that is old school!

+1 on Mike Plumb

I have a lot bumps and much happening in my life right now and Mike adjusting my schedule every week to fit that.
I have got a lot more quality now. Mainly because otherwise my lazy ass just want to do recovery rides ;).

Had him as coach since May and very satisfied.

What I do for my clients:
Weekly, bi-weekly, monthly training plans in trainingpeaks, adjusting as anyone needs.
Free bike fit a few times per year
Free swim, run analysis with video a few times per year
Raceplans
Unlimited communication

I know we are quite a few coaches in Sweden offering more or less the same, all for 100-150 bucks. However we all only have a handful of clients and not everyone want to expand. The more full-time coaches all cost 200-350 bucks, offering less help, but are ‘high profile’.

I am not sure how you can find a coach that fits your needs online. Us cheaper, smaller coaches doesnt too often have a website and get our clients from hearsay. Try to ask around in your local tri-club.

I would also highly recommend Mike Plumb! He coached me to my overall amateur female win at Ironman Cozumel and overall female win at the Carlsbad Marathon, among other PR’s! Coach Mike provided me a training plan with high level detail and extensive feedback that enabled me to completely trust the plan and as a result he was able to accurately predict my race times within the minute!

Thank you for all the replies. I have been in touch with Mr. Plumb and will hopefully be enjoying his services in the near future. Take care.
