Ben Cline of the Dearborn Cycling Saddlemen puts on the local club Personal Acheivement Time Trial each month here on Hines Drive. Ben is a frequent contributor on this forum, his username is something like “try2ridefast” or some such thing.
Perfect weather this morning, light wind, comfortable temps around 56 degree fahrenheit. A unique feature of Ben’s event is that we have the entire road, it is closed to traffic. That is huge.
17 participants raced this morning. I wanted to do the event last ime, about a month ago, but couldn’t because we were too busy here at the shop. This time I got to ride it and it was fun. I just putzed out to the turnaround and then got on it coming back when I picked up a light tail wind. It was a fun.
I think everyone’s time was respectable and everyone enjoyed the nice weather. The course is deceptively tough with curving, light rollers and there always seems to be a wind blowing just a little.
Great job to Ben and thanks to Superdave for a nice set of Zipp 999’s (they are actually his- all our are sold). Big fun.
There is a big road race near here today so Superdave is being the punished there today. Mario is up north this weekend restoring an old schoolhouse. Aderhold rode down to the TT with me but doesn’t race, he says he only does time trails “Under 60 seconds”.
Demerly putzed his way out to the turn-around and in the process passed by me even though I started 2 minutes ahead of him. That’s 2 minutes in 5 miles…yikes. Must have been the 999’s and the skin-suit
That was my 4th Saddlemen PATT, and I’ve loved everyone of them. It is a really cool event that they hold, and they do a great job. There have been some strong riders showing up this year too, I’m sure that will continue with all the good press they are receiving (deservedly so).
Oh, and Ben’s handle is “wants2ridefast”. Great guy, and a great asset to the local cycling community.
I think it’s going to work out really well actually, thanks for asking. I only had one ride with it adjusted since Aderhold worked on it this past Tuesday. It was a terrible ride in a crap load of rain, but my knee actually felt pretty good. The position felt funky, but I felt like my foot was settling in towards the end of that ride. Today, I didn’t even think about it, and only had some very mild knee pain during the TT. I think the pain is residual from aggravating it before. I’m quite hopeful.
By the way, Mike Aderhold is a top notch guy. Not only did he ask me about the cleat, but he also took a couple minutes to look at my wife riding on her bike today to address some of the concerns I had about her position. Super nice guy, and he also looks like a bad ass on his bike- much more intimidating than in civilian clothes at Bikesport.
Unfortunately, and I’m embarrased to admit this, something was rubbing the entire time on my bike. You may have heard it when I passed you. It was like rrrrr… rrrrrr… rrrrr… it was driving me nuts and slowing me down. I have no idea what it was. Mark is working on it right now. There was 30 seconds + right there…
