For Escape from Alcatraz, I’m leaning towards bringing my road bike, not my tri-bike. I am wondering if there is any substantial advantage to using the clip-ons (Syntace C2) as opposed to a straight road set-up. I can get more aero with the clip-ons, but at the expense of power.
Any thoughts?

I’d go with the aero. You still have a tough 8 mile run to do when you get off the bike. Efficiency is key.
