Clip-on aerobars for my FELT AR5 2015 model

Hello!

I have a couple of questions for the forum:

  1. Does any clip-on aerobars fit my standard FELT AR5 2015 model?
  2. Suggestions on which? Also, adjustability is quite desirable.
  3. Would love to see pictures of your setup

Best regards,

Ronny

  1. Yes, although they need to be set near the center of the handlebar due to it’s aero profile.
  2. At the moment I use the BBB BHB-52 , but I might get some FSA/Vision TriMax J-Bend for the next year. The BBBs are cool because the extensions are below the handlebar.

Thank you!

Looks good

I see you have turned the seatpost as well. And it is not the original seat?

Ronny

Thanks!

Yes, I flip the seatpost when I install the clip-ons. The seat is an ISM Adamo Attack (I think they have been replaced by the PN 1.1 now). I use it in both setups, tt and road.

Thanks!

Which pack have you attached to the top tube? Happy with it? Pros/cons?

Ronny

The top tube bag is a XLab Stealth Pocket 100 (https://www.xlab-usa.com/stealth-pocket-100.html). It’s not big, but it’ll hold a 2/3 energy gels and maybe 2 co2 canisters. I like it because it flushes quite well with the frame/stem, but there are some other options, you could also check DarkSpeedWorks and Profile Design for similar bags.

Thank you!

I use profile design t2+.

As mentioned, the stock bar from felt is actually kind of aero shaped so unfortunately you’re kind of stuck with a narrow width for mounting clip ons. I don’t particularly mind as it feels comfortable and there is enough adjustment in the t2s to make the pads work, just something to note when selecting clip ons.

Also, the feature of switching the seat post is one of the main reasons I love my bike so much. I would highly suggest experimenting with that option to get in an even better position.

Thanks for the valuable feedback TICKYBOY! Much appreciated

It would be great if you had a picture of the bike with the t2+ attached to share…

If you want an easily convertible AR set-up, I can confirm that the Redshift clip-ons work well. This system enables you to install/remove the clip-ons in a matter of seconds. There is no need to go with the Redshift saddle, since the AR’s reversible seat-post takes care of that.

The AR5 uses Shimano 105; if you are thinking of upgrading to di2, the it may be worth considering a more radical cockpit upgrade ( I now have a TriRig Alpha X which I love, due to the ability to hide the electronics). But that is expensive to set up and (perhaps like you?) I first started with clip-ons. Check out Redshift.

Thanks for your feedback BigHammer!

Those of you that are using the seatpost reversed and clip-on aerobars,

  • how aero can you get?
  • how comfortable is it for longer distances?
  • how’s the handling when in aero?

Considering a Felt AR for a HIM, so interested in hearing people’s experiences.

Thanks!
