Climate360 Sleep Number Beds and Recovery/Sleep

Obviously, recovery/sleep is a very important part of our training. I’m in the market for a new mattress and have been looking at the Sleep Number Climate360 bed but they’re $10,000 for a Queen sized. Anyone have any experience with the Climate360 or Sleep Number beds? Do they significantly make a difference in recovery? Is the Climate360 worth it or is the basic Sleep Number bed good enough. Thanks for the insight.

Just purchased a king size Sleepnumber and it does live up to the recovery hype - just be sure you purchase their headboard and frame, don’t try to hit Wayfair to but a headboard lol. Deff way less waking up at night and longer deep sleep, for me.

Just a few things on my end - we wanted two things when we were shopping this purchase around; 1. Memory foam and 2. Adjustable, separate air settings.

It took about a week to get used to, and now I found a pretty good “SleepNumber” setting to stick with. One thing to note is that it’s significantly cooler than our last mattress that we had. We find it does not retain heat like traditional memory foam, assuming due to the layer of air and ventilation.

Which model did you get? Climate360 or another one?

People are spending $10,000 on a bed?

We have Tempur-Pedic Tempur-ProAdapt split king mattresses, which in reality is two Twin XL mattresses on two bases. My mattress is soft and my wife’s is medium. The bases are Tempur-Ergo power bases which adjust like a hospital bed with a remote control. So our two sides of the bed are totally independent from one another.

The Zero-G setting was a game changer for me. Haven’t slept this well ever. Also stopped me from being a side sleeper which was terrible for my body as I got older.

My setup at current prices is $9,000. It’s a fair bit cheaper if you have one mattress/base as opposed to two. My setup in a king with one base is like $6,500.

It’s not that uncommon.

It’s like a non-cyclist asking if people spend $10,000 on a bike. The answer, as you well know, is a resounding yes. But seems alien to someone buying $200 Huffys from Walmart.

Fair enough

I have never understood the concept of Sleep number beds. The whole point of their adjustability is to find a setting that you like…and then never change it. So why not just find a cheaper mattress with a firm/soft that you like? The adjustability of it is irrelevant once you find your “sleep number”. Also, their warranty is terrible. I got a Tempurpedic ProAdapt for like mid-3k range and it is the best sleep of my life.

I don’t knock spending $10k on a bed, however. If it’s your perfect bed and no other bed comes close, go for it. You’re going to spend 8 of 24 hours per day on it, every day. Show me someone putting that time in on a bike…

Open book….I was involved in the development of the sleep number bed.

You don’t have to pay $10k. That’s the top of the line. We paid $2k for a queen, which is equivalent to a good mattress. We have three of them. One at home and one at each of our daughters houses where we frequently stay to be near the grandkids.

On adjustability, I typically like it at 35, but have had both shoulder and hip surgeries, and in those cases have adjusted it to higher numbers and as I recover adjust it back down to what is comfortable. My wife, typically at 85, has done the same.

Another benefit is that with two separate air chambers, when one of us is restless, the movement doesn’t disturb the other person.

I cannot comment on the cooling aspect of sleep number but I can say for us we eventually had to just trash ours. They changed the remote system and unwisely had zero support for their older system which we had. So we had to throw out the mattress when the remote died.
If you want cooling I have heard a few folks using eight sleep with success.

Check out personal comfort beds online. Sleep numbers competition. We bought through them and I am very happy with our bed. We had been through several mattresses and several stores. Finally but the bullet and bought the king sized c6. Was a lot of money, but definitely does the trick. They have a YouTube channel too.

You’ll save $ and possibly get a better product. That’s they way I felt after watching the videos.
