I have been using powerbars and gels and they get really really nasty after a while from sweat and heat.
do clif bars and bloks have the same problem? any other ideas that don’t melt?

They don’t melt, and I like the texture a lot. I wouldn’t just throw them unpackaged in your jersey though. What I usually do is cut the top of the bag off with scissors and then fold it over and stick it in my jersey pocket. Then when you want a few grab some, fold the bag back over and put it back in your pocket. There are 2 servings per package which is why I like to be able to fold the top back over and stick them back in my pocket as opposed to just tearing it open, eating them and then throwing the wrapper away.
I usually stuff some Clif Blok packets in my jersey when I ride and even on the hottest days, they don’t melt. They get a bit softer and kind of stick together, but never a complete melt-down. They rock!!!
How about clif bars? I use powerbars and they tend to melt pretty badly together during my rides
Clif bars don’t melt either; they work perfectly.
I use the Almond Brownie Balance Bars for exactly this reason. They are a brownie consistency which does not melt or stick no matter the heat or where you store them. I’ve had issues with most other items in the heat but not these.
I fill my pockets with Clif Bloks in T2 and pop one every 10 minutes on the run; works perfectly!
I’ve never had a problem with the clif bar either. Except once I had one that had some “frosting” drizzled over it (lemon poppy flavour?). That got pretty messy in the jersey pocket.

Clif blocks definitely don’t melt, they are awesome (edit: this conflicts with my sponsorship so if anyone else asks, they suck;) and super easy and fun to eat while hammering away on the bike. Also, and I haven’t tried this but this is via some pro xterra friends. I guess they work great by licking them and sticking them to your bars just like people do with energy bars sometimes. I think this could look pretty cool if you did a neat little multicolor Clif Blok sculpture on your top tube or aerobars. Or better yet! Stick them on your helmet:)
Clifbars do not melt per se on hot days since they are an organic rolled oat bar, however when they are warmer, they will clump a bit together if pressed together such as in a jersey, but not bad at all and never an issue. Get a bar, cut it in 1/4 or 1/8 put the pieces in a zip lock baggy then you can eat peices at a time.
With Shot Bloks, just cut off the top of the bag then push them up with your fingers when you need them. FYI… There are 6 bloks per bag. 3 bloks equal 100 calories, which equals one shot gel packet, so each bag of Bloks equals 2 gel packets.
I love the Bloks for the run. Much easier to eat than a gel and you can more easily tailor how much you take in. I’ve found that the bars give me stomach issues on longer races and really like the new Hammer Nutrition bars (which don’t melt either, but do get a bit sticky.)
i find powerbars taste better when they’re warm (and chewy)… cliffbars no. luna bars + heat = nono. goooey.
I’m going to go ahead and throw this out. I know how popular these are on ST, but Bento Box, anyone?
