Trying to get more aero by getting lower. As super tall 6’7†that’s easier said that done.
Was thinking if i start by moving cleat as far back as possible, that should help. Any downside to that? Besides pedal being centered a couple of centimeters further back under the foot?
I’m only 6’1"but do have size 50 feet and have loved how it feels with my cleats moved as far rearward as the Speedplay aluminum adapter plates allow. My power hasn’t changed but my calves appreciate the change.

So you guys can actually feel a difference? I don’t think i point my toe much, but probably more than i should. I never really feel fatigue in my calf’s when i ride where short at heavy power or IM type stuff.
My cadence tends to be on the lower end did you guys see any impact on that?
I’m 6’2†and also have my cleats all the way back, which is pretty far with the Speedplay extender base plate that gives another ~14 mm of rearward placement. I also didn’t see any difference in power, and my calves also appreciated the change.
I don’t think it impacted my cadence, but I’ve been riding like this for a couple seasons so it’s hard to remember if I had to adapt to it (cadence wise). I’m usually in the mid to high 90s when racing.

I am not sure I saw any difference in cadence or anything. But I didn’t look for it.
The whole reason I went for midfoot cleat placement was this. Every morning I would ride my commuter bike, with mountain-bike shoes and SPD cleats/pedals to work. And I started to realize that I felt a whole lot better commuting on a crappy aluminum former-road bike on a frame a size too large for which I had never been fitted.than I did when riding my uber-nice road bike for which I had been meticulously fitted. After a few weeks I realized it came down to the feel of my feet over the pedals. Got the Speedplay adapter and have never looked back. Love, love the love the feel. Feel like I can put the whole of the large muscles of my leg into it and give the small muscles a rest. I can ride at any cadence I want.
Only downside is that when I am riding really really slowly (e.g. when just starting after a stop) and I need to turn sharply enough, the fact that my toe is so far forward can lead to toe rub. But that’s so minor.
I’ve done triathlons in which my cadence averaged near 100 (with zeros included) so I guess I didn’t slow down my cadence. But I’ve also done ones in which I kept it under 90.

I’m somewhat the opposite … about 5’11" with a size 43.5 shoe … and I like my cleats as far forward as possible. I tried rear cleat placement and found I lost a fairly significant amount of power (10-15 watts on FTP). It really is an individual thing when it comes to cleat placement.
For the OP … Cleat placement will likely make little to no difference in being able to get lower, especially as tall as you are. Set your cleats for best power rather than aero position.

I’m 6’ and have done the same. I have the new Bont Helix that gave me about another 5mm than my Bont Vaypor S and feels even better. I personally feel more powerful with a more reward cleat and definitely calves feel better running off the bike. My cadence is around 83-85 is the sweet spot. Frodeno ran the plate for some time and now gets his shoes drilled to eliminate the adaptor plate I’m told by the guys on the sunny coast.
