Cleat Position (1)

I am looking for a little help on cleat position. I am in a very neutral position now, but wondered what the advantages/disadvantages are to moving it.

In a nutshell - if you turn them too much inward it will cause internal rotation of the lower leg which may hurt the IT band. Too much external rotation may cause medial knee pain. If you’re pain free in the neutral position it’s probably best to leave them there.

Slowman had an article about cleat position on the tech forum. Can’t seem to find it.

In a related question, I just went from Carnacs to Specialized shoes. How do you do the first cleat installation? Trial and error?

The LBS usually has a measuring tool that gives the degrees of rotation.

Thanks, I’ll run down there tonight.
