I guess that with the cycling forums excluding track cycling, this is as good a place as any for this.
GB track cyclist and six times Olympic gold medalist Chris Hoy has 2-4 years to live. Prostate cancer (family history) that has spread to his bones and is now stage 4. He seems remarkably philosophical about it, which is on the face of it absolutely amazing. His wife was diagnosed with aggressive MS last year.
I’ve watched his gold medal win in the Keirin at London 2012 a few times and it brings me out in goose bumps every time. Indomitable spirit. Yet cancer is a fucking fucker that can’t be dominated.
I hope he and his family make the best of the time they have left together.
His poor kids, only 7 and 10. I presume they also know about their mum. Hopefully both parents can buck the odds and hang in there for a long time or at least long enough for their kids to mature sufficiently.
I have a dear friend with prostate cancer that metastasized to his bones some 10 years ago - - has gone through multiple treatments including clinical trials - he’s still fighting.
