I have tried a version of it with limited success. I got the one that is a combination patellar and ITB strap. It looks like a regular brace I put on backwards. What really helped the most was stretchng often and taking November almost completely off from running.
Check out the link I found that does an excellent Job of truely explaining all the treatment modalities and stretches. Since I started following this guide, my problem has improved substantially!

Good Luck, I know what you are going through. Listen to your body!

I personally have not had to use one, but being a PT, I have seen plenty of people with ITB and patella-femoral pain that have used it with good results. The bottom line though is treatment and prevention. The ChoPat is a pretty good tool for the right circumstances, but it isn’t a cure, you still have to address the root cause of the problem, and that means proper rest to allow inflammation to reduce, and comprehensive rehab to get you back to running pain free as soon as possible. See a qualified sports medicine professional if you can for information, and treatment if need be. Good Luck!!
Thanks, I have been getting PT, streching, ice, strength exercises ie side leg lifts, orthotics. I am on the right track.
Thanks Again…
I have used this product over a period of several years. I hurt my ITB doing one speed workout on a cool evening without warming up properly. I got a pair of the straps and wore them religiously for several years, once the initial soreness in the ITB healed.
That particular injury was among the most discouraging ones I’ve had because it just took so long to get right again. I spent time in the pool, worked weights on other muscles, etc. in order to pass the time. But I was primarily a runner at that time, and it was torture to wait out the healing process. It just has to be that way though.
It’s something of a mystery why the straps work – you’ve probably read the articles about the theories. I tend to believe the one about the straps helping the ITB to stay where it’s supposed to be and not wander around to get irritated. There is some compromise in the muscular function when you have the strap snug on your leg, but that loss in function isn’t as bad as it would be with something like a knee brace strap (something else I know all too well).
The straps don’t work for everyone. I hope they work for you. I was initially skeptical that such a simple thing applied in a place other than the place that hurt would work. But it did.
Hang in there.
