Back to swimming 3x/week in an overchlorinated pool in NYC (Bally’s) and my skin is freaking out. Last year Aveeno helped my body but this time my face is blotchy as well. Any other suggestions?
Our kids swim year round and we use Anthelios SX with Mexoryl on their faces. Might also try brand name Vichy.
We buy it in CVS - check with your local pharmacy and see if they carry.

DermaSwim Pro has helped me.
And since your face is getting blotchy as well, you might consider new goggles.
Most likely the seals are the cause for that.
Swedish goggles have no rubber or plastic seals. Cost something like $3.00 as well.
thnx. I’m running out now. I can’t take it any longer!
Know where to get it cheap?
DermaSwim Pro has helped me.

asphalt green.
Any moisturizer will help. I know that you said the pool was at fault but in general if you have sensitive skin you should consider putting moisturizer on your face before each swim.
When in my teens some of my old team mates were on acne medication that left their skin really dry and susceptible to chlorine burn, they used to put moisturizer on last thing before getting in the pool and first thing upon getting out.
I also like Sarna. I buy it Walgreens. Good luck.
I rub in a thin layer of baby oil on my face. You can do the same over areas that you are developing a rash.
Shower before you swim: then your skin will already have absorbed a bunch of water, and will take in less of the chlorinated kind.
Thanks again for all of the tips. Aveeno Advanced Formula helped with the itching last night. Swam this morning and used the Aveeno body wash too. My face looks like I’ve been run through the mill though ![]()
Benadryl cream.
It’s the only reason I’ve not turned into one giant itch.
Switch pools - not all pools are chemically treated the same way. Your existing pool then becomes your control group.
Ask the pool manager what the chlorine test levels look like for the pool … if they won’t show you, take a sample to a pool supply store and they will usually test it for you for free if you just tell them its for your own pool … or a nominal fee if you just fess up the truth. If its high and has bad acid balance, you might wish to change your membership. You might also find what time of day they add chlorine/acid to the pool and avoid that time.

Are you sure it is high Cl? Look at the log sheet as it could be low pH. Not sure who controls pools in and what requirements are in NY, but Cl shouln’t be too high.
As of for the dry skin, try what others suggested.
No, I’m not sure what it is. Prolly just sensative skin. I’m giving the Dermaswim a shot too.
As to gym options etc. unfortunately, for many reasons, I’m at the mercy of bankrupt Bally’s. Pool manager?? Log sheets? Please. I’m lucky the pool even has water in it. The "lifeguard’ is usually asleep, there is no other help around and they even eliminated towel service in decemeber. We’re lucky they even open the doors. Not so sure that’s going to continue for long.
Sounds like there really is something worse than not swimming at all ![]()

Sadder yet, is I have the pleasure of walking 15 minutes to this location. They closed the one across the street (w/ a smaller but cleaner pool) to make room for a new subway line that s/b running in about 8 years!
Maybe siging up for my 2nd IM wasn’t such a good idea afterall. Damn voucher system ![]()
